    CZ 457

The shanks on the R0 & R5 barrels are 1.25" dia, which is larger than the 457 action - I think the round section at the front of the action is 1.180". I don't know if there's any real advantage to going with one of the R-series blanks, and then having to turn the shank down to fit the aciton, or...

Rifle Scopes Cronus BTR GEN2 4.5-29×56 or Tract Toric 4.5-30x56 ?

I've owned several Cronus scopes, from the early models up to and including the Gen 2. The Gen 2 has new SS guts, with very distinct click detents - there's really no comparison in the click detents on the older BTR & the new Gen 2. I can't imagine accidentally turning the windage knob on the...

    CZ 457

I've had three 457s - American, Varmint MTR, and VPT with the Manners stock. The American's bbl gave poor accuracy, even after pulling it and re-cutting the ragged factory muzzle crown, and putting over 500rds of pretty decent std vel SK ammo through it. The Varmint MTR shot pretty decent right...

    Revic or Swarovski ds2

I don't see any mention of electronic equipped scopes, and in fact, when asked what his needs were, he replied "hunting and some LR targets". And I read through the entire thread before posting my reply, so what's your beef?

    Revic or Swarovski ds2

Since Kahles brought out the K525i models, the price on the K624i scopes have dropped a bit. I've had K624i scopes on three of my Bighorn comp rifles for several years, and am still well satisfied with them. They aren't as compact as the K525i, but have great DOF - I usually set the parallax at...

    CZ 457

That's a nice looking Varmint model. And it would appear from the one group you posted that it's got potential. Nothing wrong with a 'plain jane' 457 Varmint in my book. I think the stock design is attractive, and really like the features of the 457 action - liked them enough to re-barrel a...

    Howa bottom metal options

That's news to me - and if a change in magazines is all that's required to get away from having to make the cuts I've done in the mill to Howa 1500 actions, then I'd definitely try it. If there's no issue in these MDT mags being available, and are priced competitively, then why not go that route?

Aero Precision Bolt Gun Teaser (Now newly announced SABR thread)

Got home from a hospital trustee's meeting an hour's drive away last evening, popped a bowl of popcorn, and came into the office to check emails. Wonder of wonders - there was one from my sales contact at Aero Precision announcing the availability of what I've been asking for since I placed my...

    Howa Mini in 6mm ARC

I recently bought a CZ527 mag for the 6.5 Grendel for the purpose of getting that DBM for a Mini I chambered for 22 Grendel because of the issues I've had with feeding with the poly mags in DIP DBM. Haven't ordered it yet, but still thinking about it.

Aero Precision Bolt Gun Teaser (Now newly announced SABR thread)

I wound up using the universal head on my Brownells action wrench, with the addition of a couple of heavy PVC shims to avoid dinging the integral scope rail on the SOLUS action that I used on a 6XC build I did with a Bartlein 3B contour shouldered bbl blank. It worked, but was a rather marginal...

    Howa Mini in 6mm ARC

My Legacy Intnl. sales rep had 40+ of the Mini rifles in 6ARC that he was running a special on several months ago, so I ordered a couple of them in. I was disappointed because in the email ad he sent, they listed the muzzle threads as 5/8-24, so I figured the bbl's would be at least heavy enough...

Aero Precision Bolt Gun Teaser (Now newly announced SABR thread)

Dittos on AP playing around on too many projects. My sales rep on the AR side of the business says he doesn't know what's going on over on the bolt rifle side; sounded to me a little like he was getting a bit tired of getting his ass chewed by irate customers who were wanting action prints &...

Aero Precision Bolt Gun Teaser (Now newly announced SABR thread)

Was just on the Aero Precision website checking out some sale items when I decided to look into the bolt rifle section to see if they'd ever come up with a rear entry action wrench. Nothing yet, but they do sell polymer action blocks that clamp in regular vise jaws. Price is reasonable, but it's...

    adjusting Howa HACT trigger

I've cut the spring on HACT triggers out of several full-size 1500 actions, as well as all five of the Mini builds I've done for myself. The HACT trigger is just dandy after clipping the spring, good enough so that I removed a Timney trigger on one of my rifles and put the modified HACT back in...

    DeLane Development Group Rimfire Ventures

VGW used to put a single letter stamp on barrels that they'd fitted & installed, just ahead of the front of the action at 6:00. A=Ace, B=Bartlein - these two are the only ones I've seen, so not sure what other stamps they've either used or are still using... Out of the six Vudoo rifles I own, I...

Whats the best of the cheaper ammunition? Eley Target example

I get tired enough after 10 or so 5-shot groups that - unless I'm well-rested by a really good night's sleep the night before - I start to get a little looser in my holds and find I'll settle for less than perfect hold & shot break. It's just fatigue, and taking a break between series of groups...

Whats the best of the cheaper ammunition? Eley Target example

I've tried Eley black box Match in one of my V22 repeaters at 200yds, during a session at 200 where I was also shooting Lapua Center-X (lot tested at Lapua in Mesa) and SK Rifle Match (lot tested here at home). Center-X was definitely better than SK Rifle Match at 200, but the Eley Match was...

    DeLane Development Group Rimfire Ventures

I have three Gen 1 repeaters that I've got a lot more experience with than the Gen 3 Three-60 repeater & a couple of V22S single shots. Since the majority of my CF rifles are built on 2-lug actions, and I'd shot the Gen 1 V22s since 2017, I was feeling awkward with the Three-60 because of the...

What would your Dream bench gun be ?

I shoot the same BR Varmint Silhouette matches that Gunner 75 mentioned. He was generous enough to supply one of his prototype heavy BR stocks to me for the BAT 3L rifle I built in 6 Dasher for these matches, and I took it to the same body shop for Ford electric red paint. That's a Sightron SIII...

    Howa bottom metal options

I've used PTG DBMs in short action Howas for many years, and have been satisfied with them. I've put them in mostly B&C stocks, which take some pretty minor inlet work with a Dremel to make them fit. I've also posted that I had to do some work on my vertical knee mill on the Howa action's mag...
