using 168 SMK and 175 SMK need help

Re: using 168 SMK and 175 SMK need help This is simple, when you dial in POI for 175 at 800-1000yds, or any range, you dial in using 175 data. You'll still need some actual range data to verify your ballistic chart with real world results. Different load = different POI = different click...

Re: is my cheap scope screwing me? If the internals of a scope are not rugged, it won't hold a zero, and consistent, accurate shooting will not be possible. There at least a dozen other factors that contribute or detract from a rifles accuracy potential, from the scope mounts to the stock...

    Hunting Rifle Build Ideas

Re: Hunting Rifle Build Ideas Bullet choice is a much more critical decision than a few fps... The difference between a 300 WSM and a 300WM is a lot of hairsplitting for a hunting rifle, and a 30-06 is plenty capable and gives an extra round or two in the mag...sometimes that counts more...

    Suppressors Govt. surplus M1911A1's

Re: Govt. surplus M1911A1's How do you wear out a Glock...they are good for 1/4 million rounds with a few replacement parts. If your department can't afford a few Glock parts, 1911s won't work for you. 1911s are a maintenance nightmare. Expect to hire a few full time armorers to keep them...

    Weatherby Vanguard?

Re: Weatherby Vanguard? Not necessarily... I'd happily trade fractionally larger groups to eliminate any potential of a wandering zero, but every single one of my rifles is free-floated and I haven't seen any larger groups... a properly bedded action does help accuracy overall. TC

    Weatherby Vanguard?

Re: Weatherby Vanguard? What's a tactical scope? A big, heavy scope is out of place on a sporter weight hunting rifle, but otherwise, the Vanguard is a good package and most are accurate enough for what they are designed for. Long range shooting is not a problem for the rifle. TC

    Buds Guns Beware

Re: Buds Guns Beware Use a Credit card for all transactions. If you have a checking account, most banks will issue you one. These days I don't take my debit card out of my safe. Leave the Debit card at home. TC

    Stock Stevens Trigger.

Re: Stock Stevens Trigger. Why 204, 223 is a lot simpler and Savage/Stevens puts a decent twist on their barrels out of the gate...your call, but the Stevens trigger is the basic Savage pre-accutrigger and is easily slicked up. TC

Gunsmithing Crack in bolt! Need to replace? *pics*

Re: Crack in bolt! Need to replace? *pics* Before you do anything, have you called Remington yet? See how they respond and how they want to handle it. They should fix it under warranty as a manufacturing flaw and a safety issue. They may have a warranty station that is local to you. What...

    300 win mag in a howa 1500

Re: 300 win mag in a howa 1500 Either will work fine, but a 180 TSX or 210 VLD are not necessary for a 300 yd deer...in that example any bullet will do. If you like Barnes... the 165 TTSX, but a monolithic bullet isn't necessary for deer when a corelokt works just fine. TC

Savage Long Range Hunter vs Remington 5R

Re: Savage Long Range Hunter vs Remington 5R 300 WM is a great round if you are not bothered by recoil, and the 5R is a good package. 7mag recoils less than the 300WM, and is plenty for deer, but the next step to consider might be reloading. Long range success is more about ballistics and...

    XBolt .300 WSM

Re: XBolt .300 WSM Steel bedding an action into a stable stock platform will put a factory rifle into the best situation as far as accuracy goes. Solid scope mounts are also a pre-requisite. Once those two are accomplished, ammo is the last rung. Sounds like you might be good to go. TC

    .308 Savage 10 PC or 10 FCP-K opinions

Re: .308 Savage 10 PC or 10 FCP-K opinions For a hunting rifle, 400-600 yds I would prefer a lighter rig with a medium/sporter weight barrel. In 308 a 20" bbl will be fine. I would consider the 308 a fine hunting round within 600 yards. As long as terminal velocity is around 1800-2000fps...

    Barnes TTSX vs Nosler Accubond

Re: Barnes TTSX vs Nosler Accubond I think either of those bullets would work fine, but I would run a lighter TTSX. I would run a 150. You might be able to drive it close to 3300 fps in your rifle, but the 165 at 3100 would work too. Take the extra velocity when running the X bullets, there...
