Rifle Scopes Counter Sniper - revisited **again** WTF

Re: Counter Sniper - revisited **again** WTF There seems to be some mass confusion of the origin of Bertrillium-Zantitium, so let me shed some light. First off, to show my credentials, I am an evil scientist that majored in neo-biochemistry. I work for an agency so covert I am forbidden to...

    SR-25

Re: SR-25 No dog in this fight, but I thought I'd play devils advocate and say that the US govt procurement process these days is leaning heavily on sustainment and logistics, which isn't the sexy topic opined about in magazines and such. That fact tends to favor weapons systems that have a...

Range Report 700 yards with 16" AR

Re: 700 yards with 16" AR hopps, I havn't tried the 4064, but have used Varget. 45 grains in a new Winchester case under a 175 grain J4 shoots great until it gets hot. I think my gun would like either a smidgen less powder, or perhaps a longer COAL, but everytime I try to develop that load...

    5.56 HomeDefense Ammo Suggestions

Re: 5.56 HomeDefense Ammo Suggestions For what it's worth, I set up a test a couple of years ago to see what different .223 ammo did to drywall. I built five 3' x 4' walls and shot them with eight factory loads and two hand loads IIRC from an AR15 and a Ruger Mini-14. The round that...

    LR-308L: Worth it or build?

Re: LR-308L: Worth it or build? I built mine during the Obama election/innauguration, and it was more expensive, and I don't believe I got any more accuracy out of it than a DPMS SASS. It was also a nightmare. Right now you could probably break even or get it all for a little bit cheaper...

Advanced Marksmanship serious pulse problem: UPDATE AND NEW ??pg2

Re: serious pulse problem Just ran across this post. I used to have a bad pulse problem when shooting; it was most noticable when shooting from the sitting, but was bad no matter what position I was in. It was frustrating as hell for years. Found out later on I had some cardio problems and...

Advanced Marksmanship .223 Performance Questions (55 grain @ 600 yards)

Re: .223 Performance Questions (55 grain @ 600 yards) I'd say that's great performance from factory ammo, especially with 55 grain pills. Nothing to worry about there. For fun, try 69 grain loads; they should shoot well in your gun. I have shot them out to 620 with great results, and I...

    C-Products .308 Magazine

Re: C-Products .308 Magazine I have two ten rounders, and they have worked fine without issue for almost two years. As BCP pointed out, they can take a longer COAL.

Range Report First OCW Test Tikka 22-250

Re: First OCW Test Tikka 22-250 Looks like you have a tackdriver! If you want to go for higher velocity, then work up to whatever the max load is for the reloading books that you have, just make sure that you look for pressure signs. The Hodgdon manual says 41 grains is the max load for 52...

Range Report Ar15 Twist 1/9 - ? on shooting this Barnes Grenade

Re: Ar15 Twist 1/9 - ? on shooting this Barnes Grenade I've fired the 50 grain VG in a 16" 1/9 with excellent accuracy. Don't know about the lighter ones though. It can't hurt to load up ten of them and give them a try.

Range Report 700 yards with 16" AR

Re: 700 yards with 16" AR Yeah, I'd love to try the heavies with a longer barrel. The 80 grain MK sounds nice, but I'd have to find a bigger field to shoot in!

Range Report First OCW test Rem 700P

Re: First OCW test Rem 700P Good question. I got an average of 2,410 fps with 42.8 of Varget from an OCW test that I botched in June, but that was with a 20" barreled AR. I shoot a 155 grain hand load with 45.2 grains of RL15 and get 2,668 fps on average, while a friend of mine shoots the...

Range Report First OCW test Rem 700P

Re: First OCW test Rem 700P I've done a bunch of the OCW type tests, and they work. What cases and primers are you using? Varget and RL15 have nodes at similar ranges; 43-43.5 grains is a pretty common load with both powders, and I've seen lots of people happy with 44-45 grains in Lapua and...

Rifle Scopes Quality of Horus scopes?

Re: Quality of Horus scopes? I have a Horus Hawk scope and have to say that they're alright. The warranty is the biggest concern, and if you asked me if I would buy another one I would definitely say . . .no. For the warranty reason. As for the scope, you won't be dialing on dope, so...

    Range Report cronograph issues

Re: cronograph issues My 20" gas gun averages 2,662 fps with the 168 FGMM using a CE chrono at 10', and 2,552 with 175 gr. FGMM using the CED M2 at 15'. I found the M2 sometimes gets two readings from one shot when I put it at 10'. So far it's been good to go at 15'.

    68 gr. Hornady BTHP Match

Re: 68 gr. Hornady BTHP Match +1 on 24.5 gr. of Varget. I don't shoot the Hornadys, but 69 gr. SMKs shoot great with that charge.

Range Report 700 yards with 16" AR

****Mods, I'm not posting the group for bragging rights; I just thought it was neat to see evidence of the rounds right on the edge of their capability. I will remove the pic if it violates the shot group rule.**** I honestly didn't know that it would do it, but thought I'd give it a try for...

    155gr. Scenars andRE15

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15 My baseline go-to load is 45.2g of RL15 over a 155g Nosler J4 in a Winchester case. OAL to ogive is 2.227" with a BR2 primer. Velocity is a slow 2,668 fps average from a 20" barrel, and it;s as consistent as it gets. I've also changed it up with Remington 9...

    tacti-cool watches any one ?

Re: tacti-cool watches any one ? Beware of the Suunto watches; on the frame where the strap pin goes through is a weak point, and they break there very easy. I have a Vector that lived through four years of nasty abuse before it broke where the pin goes through. It was out of warranty, but...
