Re: Savage break-in barrel The more you squeeze bullets down the barrel, the faster it will be "broken in"

    What's a Good Factory Action

Re: What's a Good Factory Action Savage, Winchester/FN, Remington, Tikka will all perform if barreled properly. How/Weatherby Vanguard (same action) are popular overseas. I have owned both Howa & Weatherby Vanguard and the action was strong, smooth and the rifles were very accurate.

Hunting & Fishing .300 Win Mag.. tell me your thoughts

Re: .300 Win Mag.. tell me your thoughts I have owned quite a few M70's and only 1 could not hold MOPA. You should try some different ammo in it. The new Federal and Barnes ammo that uses Barnes TSX & TTSX bullets shoot well in every rifle I have tried and the penetration of thise bullets...

    .223 or .308 bolt action

Re: .223 or .308 bolt action Same basic barreled action. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The stock is the big difference. You can always find a used HS stock if you decide to go that route.

    .223 long throat vs .223AI ?

Re: .223 long throat vs .223AI ? The differnece in performance is no big deal..especially at 300 or less yards. I like the AI variant because I "HATE" trimming brass with a passion. I'd almost prefer to slam my Dick in a car door!

    .223 or .308 bolt action

Re: .223 or .308 bolt action If you are only shooting paper or metal....I CAN"T think of even ONE reason to shoot a 308 over a 223! Well....unless you prefer a bigger thumper.

    TRG22 Rechambering/Rebarreling - Need advice

Re: TRG22 Rechambering/Rebarreling - Need advice If you want enough energy @ 1k to kill hogs, then you shoud go with the 338. You can get the TRG-42 in 300 WM and handload also, but you wounr get a standard short action ncaliber with a 308 boltface that will have enough energy to cleanly kill...

    308 or 6.5x47 Lapua

Re: 308 or 6.5x47 Lapua 6.5x47 ANY day of the year if you handload. It is a MUCH better long range round than a 308. I have shot a fair amount of 308 & 260 rem (which is pretty darn close to the 6.5x47 ballistically) and the 260 has performed in a different league than the 308. Do yourself a...

Is Savage killing the Custom Rifle market?

Re: Is Savage killing the Custom Rifle market? Here's my take...Yes..a Savage (or other factory rifles under $1,000) can be just as accurate as a $3000-$4000 custom rifle. The difference is that the factory rifle "MAY be a .25 moa shooter, it may be a .50 moa shooter or may be a 1 moa...

Pros and Cons of 6.5 x 284 round for L. Range?

Re: Pros and Cons of 6.5 x 284 round for L. Range? How much soace do you need to reload for one caliber? Clamp a single stage press to a counter or desk and you are GTG. BBl life SUCKS with a 6.5x284. If you shoot any rapid fire, then bbl life is brutal...Well under 1000 rounds. I have seen...

Best 1,000 yard rifle in .260 Rem for $1,000ish?

Re: Best 1,000 yard rifle in .260 Rem for $1,000ish? The Savage will work great. I have purchased Remington 700 PSS rifles or Varmint version (used for $500-$600) and simply Rebarreled to 260 and adjusted the trigger and had a viable 1,000 yard rifle for $1000-$1200. Be smart, get a gd deal...

    SMK's for deer hunting?

Re: SMK's for deer hunting? Sierra SPECIFICALLY states that Matchkings are NOT intended for hunting. They design & manufacture these bullets and I image they have good reason to state that. Matchking jackets are thin and I know of a few hunters (including me until I got educated) that shot...

Hunting & Fishing hunting with sierra match king

Re: hunting with sierra match king Why use athin jacketed target bullet when there are specific "hunting bullets" made that are job specific. A matchking may do the job in some situations, but I spend a lot of time and money hunting and i would NEVER use a thin jacketed target bullet unless...
