    Winchester action for a build

Re: Winchester action for a build I'd RUN from Any "gunsmith that won't build a rifle on a M70 action. It is a simple, accurate action from the start. It has a built in recoil lug which many favor over a remington type. The triggers are easily adjustable or you can get a Jewel, Timney, CG...

    Recommended 338 lapua barrel contour?

Re: Recommended 338 lapua barrel contour? Look at a medium or heavy Palma contour Accuracy international uses a very similar contour and Most AI users like it. I wouldn't go less than 26' and would do 28" minimum myself. You are burning a LOT of powder and you don't want to be losing velocity...

Not a good 1st post...but I need to vent. Remingt

Re: Not a good 1st post...but I need to vent. Remingt Remington customer service SUCKS. Every single time I have called them with an isssue, I have been treated like crap! I have had a couple rifles that appeared to be "short-chambered" (the reamer was not run in all the way) and I could...

Modified Tikka T3 or Sako TRG-22

Re: Modified Tikka T3 or Sako TRG-22 I have owned a few of each and I'd say 2 things....... If your wallet allows you to but a TRG then by all means get one. The T3 is a great rifle but the TRg is a big step up in trigger, box mag, stock, beefier action (3 lugs vs 2 in T3) and resale value...

    Marlin X7VH????

Re: Marlin X7VH???? I have played with the standard sporter rifle and the action was VERY smooth, trigger crisp and around 3 lbs (similar to savage accutrigger) and the rifle was well balanced. I have done some internet research and most reviews give the Marlin high marks including...

what is the correct way to shoot a new barrel in?

Re: what is the correct way to shoot a new barrel in? There is NO proven method of bbl break in that helps whatsoever in making the bbl last any longer, shooter any smaller groups, or do anything any better than a bbl that was just taken to the range and fired any way you'd like. There are...

    7MM-08 Barrel life

Re: 7MM-08 Barrel life I can tell you this...I've had many 260 rem match bbls and they wer not capable of winning at around 2,000-2,200 rounds. Thay were ok for practice or varminting. My 308's are usuall done around 4,000 rounds or so. I'd assume a 7-08 is good for 3000-3500.

    Let's talk 7mm choices ....

Re: Let's talk 7mm choices .... A 7mm-08 can just about equal the performance of the 270 Winchester which has been used on deer, elk, moose and bear with much success for around 80+ years. That being said...I would probably buy a 7-08 and have it rechamvered to 284 Winchester if I thought I...

    Remington 700 extractor question

Re: Remington 700 extractor question I have had 700's that fired 1000's of rounds with no issues and I have also had a few with extractor issues. I don't think the 700 has the best extractor setup and most 700's I purchase, I install a sako type extractor.

    .30'06 vs .308

Re: .30'06 vs .308 over 700-800 yards I would take a well built 30-06 over a 308 ANY and EVERY day of the year. I have had may rifles in both calibers and the 30-06 will outshoot the 308 in equally accurate rifles (ie...both 1/2 MOA for example) at long range. 800 yards plus. I get a solid...

.223AI with 75 AMax....... What powder though ???

Re: .223AI with 75 AMax....... What powder though ??? I have used 24-25 grains of RL15 & Varget with OAL @ 2.375' in my chamber with superb results. I also tried H4895 and that shot nearly as well with seemingly slightly higher pressures.

Please help me make dicision 7005R VS 40XB ks

Re: Please help me make dicision 7005R VS 40XB ks The 5R is nothing more than a standard heavy barreled 700 with 5R rifling. The 40X is a custom shop rifle. You MAY get a 5R to shoot just as well as a 40X, But generally with handloads. I'd probably go 5R and either shoot it and then rebarrel...
