Case neck thickness, how much is enough?

Re: Case neck thickness, how much is enough? .012 is a common neck thickness to run on a BR rig. Now if you need to fiqure your resize thickness you will need at least .002 smaller then that. The .002" per side expansion is common to have in your chamber sizes.

Rust in new stainless Tikka barrel?

Re: Rust in new stainless Tikka barrel? You might be seeing carbon coming out of the barrel which will look some what like rust. Also if you fire a gun and let it sit un cleaned for a long time you will get that kind of color. I dont think the barrel rusted you would need to finish cleaning...

    Gunsmithing Silver soldering bolt handle

Re: Silver soldering bolt handle If you dont plan on removing it then a nice tig weld would be good. SS just doesnt hold up real well. But if you want you want you just need and solder that will do up to 13000 psi. You can get the 18000 stuff but it has a much higher melting point.

    Barrel blew apart.

Re: Barrel blew apart. I dont see anything that would point out that this could have been anything but something in the barrel. It does look like a bullet got left in the bore and when the next one was fired it got stuck just a few inches before the muzzle and cause a massive pressure...

    338 LM with Retumbo

Re: 338 LM with Retumbo Cira the first thing i do when i start loading for a new gun is find out its max. Like going up a grain at a time untill you get to 93 or 94 and go .5 at a time after that. Some barrels wont create the pressure you need right away to get close to those velocities. So I...

    barrel break in question

Re: barrel break in question If the barrel is lapped its broken in. Whats not is the throat. If you do find a bunch of coppers get most of it out and repeat with a few more...

    6.5x47 Speed Estimation

Re: 6.5x47 Speed Estimation Yes that has worked fine in mine. But i only use the Hodgdon extreme powders. Getting rid of the temp sensitive factors is just a very big plus when doing load development.

    What causes keyholing?

Re: What causes keyholing? First thought, is the barrel is shot out. Second one is you have another major problem with it. A 1:10 twist should handle up to 220 grain bullets with no problems.

    7WSM switch barrel

Re: 7WSM switch barrel Its gonna be close the wsm case is a little bit larger then the WM. Your gonna have to measure it and find out. You need at least .004 more diam in the face of the bolt then the head of the case so everything will function right.

    6.5x47 Speed Estimation

Re: 6.5x47 Speed Estimation JPipes if you see no pressure signs and if you can get 3 or 4 loads and still have tight primer pockets i might not do anything to it. Just because QL says you should be that fast it doesnt mean you are. My advice would be find someone with a chrono and see what...

    Lehigh Brass Bullets
