Stupid question Monday, has anyone considered shooting an opposite handed rifle?

No, there would be a lot more problems and more gun movement. If you shoot enough weak-side/left handed with a right handed rifle you will have experienced this. Shooting prone or any other modified prone with a bipod and a rear bag - your rifle should be supported by the rear bag and your...

CMMG Radial Delayed 9 mm - First trips

I've always been interested in getting one of these as a fun range toy. Have you followed the articles/recommendations for upgrading the buffer setup to smooth out the recoil impulse? The go-to recipe seems to be an A5 length buffer tube, a Tubb flat wire 308 spring, and a Kynshot RB5007...

    TriggerTech acquires Hawkins Precision

I've got over 50k rounds across 5 Trigger Tech diamonds, have been very happy with their performance. The only issues two issues I can recall are one time when I a pierced a primer with an overpressure load and gunk blew into the trigger and caused it to cease functioning. I cleaned the trigger...

PRS Talk New shooter timing out a lot

100% this. Speed is definitely not about moving fast or shooting fast. Speed is being accurate and efficient in getting into position and being on target in the scope. The best shooter in our region (and one of the best in the nation) looks like he's moving slow when he shoots, but his body...

PRS Talk PRS Match participation taking a hit in 2025?

That makes sense and lines up with what I'd seen in my total year over year data. Dilution across more matches, not a downturn.

13 Y/O Daughter 1st PRS Rifle Build Feedback

My daughter started shooting PRS matches with me at age 13-14 and is just now getting ready to head off to college. She's had a lot of success in PRS and it's been a great journey together. I personally like option #1 out of your choices, build her a competitive rifle in 6 Dasher that will let...

PRS Talk PRS Match participation taking a hit in 2025?

Interesting info, thanks for sharing. I'd not looked at any real match data for 2025 yet since I usually do that at the end of the year. My initial thought is that perhaps what your data is showing is not a decline, but rather a dilution? There are a lot more Pro matches being added, and my...

    Consistency, or lack thereof

I read through the thread and was going to chime in, but @CK1.0 already said it all.... focus should be on the shooter skill development and not the load development. A lighter 308 is hard to shoot well, and often times certain equipment/components are only going to shoot so good. If you've...

    PRS Talk Target acquisition

That makes sense. I've never struggled on that aspect, but am not colorblind myself so don't have direct experience. Maybe at your next match when you find a stage that's challenging to see the target edges ask some squad mates if you can look through their scope and see if it helps at all. I...

    PRS Talk Target acquisition

Agree with hlee, the key is reference points. Spend the time prestage to get a very precise mental image of where the target is located, both under magnification and with naked eye. Then as you're building a position take an extra moment to carefully line up the rifle and your body so that you...

12rnd Billet AW magazine for BR size cartridges from Gray Ops

My daughter and I have been using the Grey-Ops AW mags for both Dasher and BRA in Impact actions for the last year, competing regularly. They have been 100% trouble free between 4 different mags and two different actions. Definite thumbs up from me.

    Ross Precision Machine (Paul Ross)

I just got a new barrel from Paul and took it to the range yesterday. It's a 16" 223 Wylde Bartlein barrel, standard heavy contour. Platform is a factory DDM4V7 lower/upper/bolt. No load development, just used some ammo I already had on hand. 77 SMK's 23.2gr XBR8208 loaded to 2.26" in Lake...

Stupid question about recoil: 1 cartridge vs another

As noted above, the amount of powder also adds to the recoil. Some of the initial ignition energy goes towards launching the powder column forward, adding to the total recoil. There is something to be said for shorter duration recoil. The sooner the recoil is over, the sooner you can start to...

Rifle Competition Events NRL Barrel Question

The vast majority of NRL Hunter open light competitors seem to be running carbon fiber barrels from what I've seen shooting/RO'ing, especially those at the top. I don't think there's any reason to be concerned with drift or heat with a quality carbon fiber barrel.

    "The Polished Knob"?

He did a couple bolt knobs for me a couple years ago and was very helpful. I custom designed them and gave him a drawing with measurements and he nailed it perfectly. Price was pretty reasonable too, not sure what he charges these days.

    PRS Upper (small frame)

I'm following down the same path, PRS guy trying to build out an AR to play in the long range DMR match space. Craddock was one of my top choices, but they didn't have the Bartlein blanks in stock so you had to order custom (with longer lead times). I ended up putting in an order for a custom...

    Shot timer training

I use a shot timer all the time for my PRS training, a lot of one-shot drills on a barricade. Start with gear in hand, build a position and break a clean shot on the beep. Use the time as a judge for performance, sometimes intentionally going slow to make the trigger pull perfect. Search for...
