Where is everyone buying their precision calipers?

I just bought a set of Mitutoyo from MSI Viking.

    6mm Dasher

Your current 105 hybrid load with a 30" barrel is very conservative, probably around 49k PSI. "Max" load is 65k PSI. If you want to match the same conservative case pressure with a 115 VLD the prior advice of 29.1g Varget would do it. Likely speed will be ~2725fps which is pretty slow. If you...

    Leveling scopes…tools?

A bit of clarification on this... Bubble level to scope reticle/tracking is crucial, making sure to level the scope when you shoot. Scope centered over the bore is NOT crucial, and actually has a lot of flexibility. You can even have the gun slightly off axis if that suits your body position...

    Leveling scopes…tools?

The only thing that matters is that the bubble level matches up when the scope is aligned with the plumb line. If your bubble level is attached to the pic rail of your gun, then all the other tools become irrelevant. You need to spin the scope in the rings until the reticle is in alignment with...

Bare Minimum Gear for First PRS Match?

It will almost always be limited round count. For example you would have 10 rounds to take 10 shots from the 10 designated engagements (shooting position + target both specified). Usually you move through the 10 designated position/target engagements regardless of whether you hit or miss the...

    Prs Cold Weather Outer Layers

I've settled on a GoreTex shell as my outer layer, works good for either cold or rain or both. Add additional insulating layers underneath as temperature requires, I usually run a puffy down under the shell and that's quite warm, plus a thermal or two. Also allows me to shed layers if it warms...

    Bolt knob replacement?

I bought a couple custom bolt knobs a while back, I spec'd the whole bolt knob size and design and thread pitch, and the price was super reasonable. Outfit is out of Flathead, MT called "The Polished Knob" and you can find them on Facebook or at https://thepolishedknob.net/ Here's the pic of...

    Pre-fit barrel alignment

My thought would be that it's far more likely that the pinned rail is out of alignment than there being something wrong with the action body. Machining a square face and square lugs on the action tube is a pretty simple task that is unlikely to go wrong in the CNC manufacturing process. My...

    CRB or benchmark

Benchmark offers both cut rifled and button rifled barrel blanks, I would confirm which one TS is carrying. My assumption would be cut rifled, but no harm in double checking. Travis at TS wouldn't carry anything that doesn't perform excellent. The last barrel he cut for me was a hammer...

243 vs 6mm Dasher trying to understand....

6 Dasher has been around a long time in the world of 1000 yard benchrest competitions, it started winning records ~20 years ago. The Dasher was dominant for a long time, now you see more of a mix between 6 Dasher and 6 BRA (both very similar cartridges). Those benchrest guys really only care...

    6mm Dasher

There's nothing "Pro" about faster velocities. And no, you're incorrect about what the "Pros" are actually shooting. They do surveys on this stuff every year before the PRS finale and publish the info. And for what little it's worth, yes I fill out the survey every year too. Here are the...

    6mm Dasher

I have to agree here, the info being posted by 45-90 is flat out misleading and dangerous for the average reloader wanting info on the Dasher. He brags about how much speed he is able to get, but neglects to mention that he's getting that speed not only by running at the upper end of pressure...

How many loads did YOUR last batch of brass last YOU?

I average around 20 firings for my last couple sets of Dasher and BRA brass. 223 (starting with 1x fired mil-surplus brass) lasts me around 10-12 firings. I bump shoulder more aggressively on those and the shallower shoulder angle allows a lot more case stretch. Mostly case-head separation...

    The Sportsman Division

There's two parts to this issue... 1) Are the same people going to win? Yes, absolutely. The experienced competitors who have invested time and money into traveling and shooting matches, burning through ammo, and practicing over multiple years are going to be WAY better at this sport. You...

    The Sportsman Division

Seems pretty cool to me. Weight limit is 13lb but that includes your magazine, so it's pretty much the same as an NRL Hunter open light gun (12lb max). It also encompasses most 6.5 Creed sporting rifles that an average Joe would buy at Sportsmans Warehouse, and that's a HUGE chunk of the market...

    Winter gloves for shooting

I have a couple different sets of gloves for winter matches. I have a nice set of gore-tex shell insulated lightweight gloves from Mountain Hardware that are for cold/dry conditions, I've also got a set of inexpensive Mechanix gloves that I'll use when temps are 30-50 degrees. The key is using a...

Which piece of equipment is more important?

Kestrel would be more beneficial. If budget is tight, buy used. You'll have enough funds left over to buy a used magnetospeed sporter chrono as well. A quick glance on the forum here and I found a used 4DOF non-elite Kestrel for $375 and a used Sporter for $70.

New distance shooter - need help coming up to speed

Truth! :ROFLMAO: @kravi Honestly, PRS is easier to start in because you get to watch everyone else shoot, you get tips and pointers from your squad on wind and how to be better, and you get to shoot more rounds and get more reps in. Rimfire or centerfire, either would be great. NRL Hunter is a...

New distance shooter - need help coming up to speed

I wouldn't sweat the wind side of things too much. If you can read up on some of the basic wind shortcuts like "mph gun" that should get you in the ballpark. More important will be shooting and managing recoil to where you can see your impact and make a correction if you miss.
