New distance shooter - need help coming up to speed

Agree with the above recommendations. One other thing that I'd suggest practicing is getting into position with scope on target, especially if you've got a place where you can do it on natural terrain. Most of your NRL Hunter positions are going to be logs, dirt slopes, a rock, etc, and not...

PRS Talk 2025 PRS series finale date.

Looks like they already nailed down the date for Nov 1st 2025. I personally haven't minded the time change, the extra hour of sleep is nice and since I'm coming from the West the time change just moves me closer back to my home time zone. :)

PRS Talk PRS final match results

Yeah, the match wrecked a lot of people including some of the top leaderboard shooters going into the finale. There were a lot really small targets and the pace of move/acquire/shoot was fast on quite a few stages, even with 105 second par times. Finding tiny grey targets in a giant rocky...

PRS Talk PRS final match results

Very solid performance by Ben Gossett, only dropped 12 points all weekend. The wind got nasty at the end of day 2, pushing over 20mph and lots of people bled points in the last few stages of the match.

    lets see your foundation stock

Both the MG2 grip and the Centurion style grip are fine for big hands. It just depends if you prefer a vertical style grip that's closer to the trigger (Centurion) or a more traditional slightly angled grip with a bit more distance to the trigger (MG2).

    lets see your foundation stock

MG2 is about 12.5 inches from center of front action screw to end of the stock. Arca rail sticks out another 1.25 inches beyond the fore end.

Hornady / Stoney Point Seating Depth Tool

There used to be a video from him years ago but it's not online anymore. Short description.... Strip the bolt - remove firing pin/spring/shroud, remove ejector plunger w/ a pin punch+hammer. Bolt handle will drop freely in the action with zero resistance. Size a piece of brass until it fits...

    What are you using?

If I were building a rifle for NRL Hunter I would say 6.5 Creed is the easy button. The power factor requirement favors being able to shoot heavier bullets in the 147-156gr range and 6.5 Creed will get those bullets to the necessary speed without too much effort and without being overkill or...

Hornady / Stoney Point Seating Depth Tool

I settled on using the Hornady tool only to find the "hard jam" number. If I want to know where "touching" the lands is I'll use the Alex Wheeler method. Hornady tool is pretty repeatable if you just press the bullet firmly into the lands using just your fingertip, then knock the bullet out of...

    lets see your foundation stock

The had a couple of them at the PRS finale last weekend. I handled one briefly, it felt very nice in the hand and a lot like an MG2 style grip. Very light weight as well. Would love to shoot one someday to see how they feel.

Advanced Marksmanship How to convert inche drop at 1000 Yards to Mils

A simple rule that can help... One mil is exactly 1/1000 of the distance to the target. If you are shooting at 1000 yards, then 1 mil = 1 yard If you are shooting at 1000 meters, then 1 mil = 1 meter If you are shooting at a distance of 100 yards, then 1 mil = 1/1000 of 100 yards aka 1/10 of...

    2 Tripod Question

Have you ever messed with using a rear bag on top of the rear tripod? It essentially converts the position into a modified prone position. It's usually done with a flat tac-table on the back tripod, but can even be done on the crown of a tripod if needed. It takes just a tiny bit longer to set...

Anyone manually dump and trickle on a A&D FX120i?

Every so often I will drop and manually trickle powder if I need to do small batches and I'm not in a hurry. I have a RCBS powder thrower directly above my FX120, so it's easy to drop powder and put right onto the scale. However, I use a different approach rather than trickling the powder onto...

At what altitude will a bullet go twice as far?

Fun thought exercise, but your terms aren't clearly defined as to whether you're looking at ballistics or "mortar fire for distance". For giggles I ran a couple possible ballistic scenarios (using a Berger 105 hybrid at 2850fps). If you are shooting at sea level, with the barrel dead level to...

PRS Talk What tripod are PRS and NRL shooters using

I see a lot of RRS tripods with Anvil heads. With NRL Hunter you see more 2 section tripods due to speed of deployment. I'm trying a two section Leofoto myself this year, in addition to my RRS three section. I use a TA-3 leveling base rather than a ballhead, but those seem less common these days.

    Mixing powder

I’ve mixed lots many times to make one big batch. You do need to mix thoroughly since just putting in a jug and shaking doesn’t really do enough. If you pour small amounts from each 1lb bottle rotating through that helps make mixing much easier.

    Truing Berger 105 hybrid BC

Something is wrong with your velocity or data or other equipment. There’s no way that the BC is north of .300. Have shot tens of thousands of 105 hybrids and have always run either the box BC of .275-278 or a G7 of .282- .283 if I was pointing bullets.
