    .224 Grendel vs .224 Valkyrie

Side note. I played with 6.5, 6mm and 22 Grendel variants. 22 Grendel is by far my favorite. Zero recoil.

    .224 Grendel vs .224 Valkyrie

800 rds on my 22 Grendel (running all JP internals and a +2 has system with the heaviest spring and tungsten weights). No broken bolt, excellent accuracy and great ballistics. Settled on a moderate load (28.9 cfe223/2990 fps/75 eld’s). Doubles as a great coyote cartridge.

    224 Grendel (224 AR, 224 Predator)

I settled on 28.9 grains of cfe223 with 75 eld’s running 2990 fps out of a 20” SS tube. Not a big fan of cfe223 for temp stablelity, but my Es has consistently held under 20 fps... I’ve had consistent hits out to 1150 yards in moderate conditions. 22 Grendel has treated me very well. That...

Rifle Scopes Should I buy a Tangent Theta?

I’ve never lost a match due to my NF’s or SB’s... Clarity is subjective. I personally (obviously opinion based) love the NF 7-35. Tracks true, excellent eye box (even at 35x) and a reticle I prefer (mil c). Yes I struggle with the few stages that require hold overs or no dial, but 90-95% I get...

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

I’ve had 2 mk 6’a that did not track for shit (like a half mil off at 10 mils). The mk5 seems to be better then the mk6 in almost every way.

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

That’s my point of posting. It’s a good optic for the coin (pending it tracks). But it is not in the same league as the top tier optics. Audible clicks mean nothing if they are not consistent, repetitive and true. Furthermore, knowing the quality of components, tight tolerances and assembly...

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

I didn’t say they had “loud sloppy clicks”... Clicks are audible but they are far from the top tier optics. They have some movement in them prior to the next detent.

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

The 3-18 is priced appropriately, but my other optics aren’t going anywhere.

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

The mk5 clicks may be louder, but they got considerably more play in them then a NF and the like. When I dial my kahles, NF or S&B there is minimal, if not no side movement. My Mk5 has enough movement in the turrets that the cap won’t align with the corresponding hash on the base of the optic...

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

There’s some play. But there is a definite click that is audible and easily felt... The detent is not deep enough or the tolerances are just to loose to hold the turret dead nuts solid like a kahles and the like. At least they line up ?*improvement over the mk6 line..

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

No time with Athlon Optics.. Such a subjective topic, but I’m comparing the mk5 to a number of high dollar optics I’ve personally owned (S&B’s 3-20/5x25’s/ NF 4-16/5-25/7-35’s, premier 5-25, vortex 4.5-27’s, kahles 6-24’s...). The mk5 is a good buy at $1400-1700. Getting in the $1850 and up...

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

I have a good hook up. Hence why I said, “that’s neither here nor there”.

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

I owned 2 and never paid over $2100 brand new with rings. But that’s neither here or there... The NF 4-16 is a superior optic compared to the mk5...

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

The mk5 is not the same caliber of optic as the other heavy hitters. I can’t say anything on the glass with full confidence. As I need more time with it, but it looks clean. Again, it’s not S&B/NF/or the like.

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

Eyebox is good at 18x. No issues there.

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

Bushnell 3-21 g3, mk5 and then NF 4-16 If I’m not mistaken the Bushy’s sell for $1500 ish (new) $1200 used. NF 4-16 mil-r (c) $2000 (new) $1800 used... It’s competitively priced. Comparing apples to oranges but my NF’s 7-35 are by far a much better optic.

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

Size/weight is perfect for my application. Don’t care for the 35mm tube, but it is what it is. Rear ocular crisp and the throw lever is a very nice addition. Also like how the throw lever does not interfere with a 90 degree bolt throw. Adjustments are better then the mk6 variants, but still...
