    Marine Corps Uniform

So, this has turned into a Wooly Pulley thread. LOL! I have felt some Wooly Pulleys like the ones mentioned that were like Brill-O pads. I'm not sure who made the ones bought in PXs. I bought my own through Brigade Quartermasters in the early 1980s. I remember the tag on it said it was "The...

I had this really recognizable tiger striped gun stolen. Can you watch for it?

So, do you really actually have it back now? Or do you have to wait while they keep it as evidence? Hopefully you WILL get YOUR property back without hassle in the end. In some jurisdictions it seems recovered firearms just pass from one thief to another type of thieves.

    Marine Corps Uniform

Yeah, I always LOVED my Wooly Pulley too. I thought they looked sharp, whether in civies or under my cammie blouse when it really got cold in the field (never cared for them as Alpha coat substitutes, though). But then again, I had come right out of the '70s when sweaters were a common sight. I...

    shooting beyond 500 yards

"If" spin drift exists, then it is repeatable and in one direction. In this case, you CAN count on it and account for it, independ of your wind reading ability. Linda Miller and Keith Cunningham, in their book "The Wind Book for Rifle Shooters", say that the effect of spin drift is largely...

    drag bag pack combo

Drag bags are very limited in use, and dragging isn't one of them. If I was that close to the FFP, I'd have my rifle out already. JMO.

Advanced Marksmanship Up HIll - Down HIll: Yes, once again!

The op was talking about the effect of gravity when shooting uphill versus shooting downhill. Shooting uphill, gravity will be slowing the bullet down more quickly than when shooting downhill where gravity aids in maintaining velocity. But here's the big secret no one knows about. Although the...

Iron sight suggestions for my G.A. Precision Thunder Ranch?

I started to make a set for my M40A1, but never finished because I didn't want to have to remove the scope to finish the project. But, here's what I did. The rear is easy. You should be able to find a peep sight that fits the rear bridge screw holes. For the front sight, I did not want to...

what travel case do you use for your precision rifle?

Regarding locks..... I know that three years ago when I checked, this was how it went, "A locked container is defined as one that completely secures the firearm from access by anyone other than you ." Now I see it has changed to, "A locked container is defined as one that completely...

Advanced Marksmanship Up HIll - Down HIll: Yes, once again!

Which really brings us back to the op's question.

Advanced Marksmanship Up HIll - Down HIll: Yes, once again!

And while you're trying to get closer, the target says I'm out of here. You're crackin' me up! I guarantee I can "do the numbers" much, much faster than you can get closer!

what travel case do you use for your precision rifle?

I've never done it, but I've heard of guys using rigid, locking golf cases to transport their rifle(s) by air. Lots and lots of room for padding, and less desirable to thieves (golf clubs vs. rifles).

Advanced Marksmanship Up HIll - Down HIll: Yes, once again!

YES AND NO! Drop is only based entirely on time of flight if the straight line to target is HORIZONTAL. All other angles have vector components that must be considered. But, wait. You just said that drop is determined by time of flight! So the time of flight to a target 1000 yards away, but...

Advanced Marksmanship Up HIll - Down HIll: Yes, once again!

That's because you're going to have a tough row to hoe around here to convince us that a bullet adjusts its speed depending on what angle the barrel is when fired. 1000 yards distance is 1000 yards distance, and the time of flight will be (essentially) the same in any case, whether 45-degrees...

Trouble reloading .45 ACP I need some help.

I always thought .45 ACP headspaces off the mouth. But, I understand what you're trying to say, relatively straight-walled cases don't grow much at each firing and reloading, especially short, stubby brass like the .45 ACP.

    Bore guides...

If this were JimBob's Gun Forum, I'd say you could get away with using a bore snake which rubs across the side of the crown or chamber and drags crap through the bore time again, and again, and again. But this being "SnipersHide" and assuming you love a precision piece of equipment, then a bore...

Rifle Camo, why? (Can of worms)

I always thought it was designed to save lives when their ships are sunk out from under them. The sharks won't see them. :)

    1,000 yards with 168 grn. 308

Exactly what I've been saying. I was shooting SMK 168s before the 175s came out. No one told me they weren't supposed to work at 1000 yards, so the bullets didn't know either. My very first 1000 yard matches got me scores in the 180s. My highest was 194-6X. The furthest I had shot before that...

Trigger thumb alongside stock or traditional/across the top?

I doubt it. Unless you're holding your shooting hand thumb along the side of your pistols. Never seen anyone do that, and can't see how the pistol would be controllable that way.

Rifle Camo, why? (Can of worms)

Like, I'm trying to remember all the guys that used painted rifles in mass murders. O.K. Who was that dude? Was there even one? Maybe, but I can't think of one at the moment. But, yeah, I know what you mean. Civilians shouldn't be allowed to own firearms if their sole concern is security of a...

Rifle Camo, why? (Can of worms)

Because should the time ever come that you need to paint it, it'll be too late. I can't help it. The tactical mindset instilled in me as a grunt just lives on forever. Proper camouflage is beautiful to me; black is blah.
