    doughnut question

Too many reloaders become discombubulated about the "dreaded donut" when they don't need to be. If the bearing surface of your bullet doesn't even touch the donut, who cares? If you want to remove a donut, either use an expander plug to push it to the outside and outside turn your necks back...

    M40 Mount Questions

And, of course, you are correct. I have yet to see a Redfield Junior base box marked "Pre-74 700-SA" or "Post-74 700-SA". LOL! No one cared then, so I don't know why some make it such a big issue now. Interesting that even the bases themselves were never completely aligned with either bridge...

Advanced Marksmanship How do you manage recoil?

Au contraire. The longer barrel time of the .22 makes many of the fundamentals even MORE important, especially follow-through!! The difference in recoil only makes body positioning more forgiving with the .22; otherwise, small bore is great practice for big bore. It will not "ingrain bad...

    M40 Mount Questions

What I don't understand is why I've never come across any reference to the Marine Corps fussing over the difference. Maybe because the 10X Sniper is so stout you can tighten everything down and the scope won't be damaged?

Will this be the last run? Hahahahahahahahahaha!!! Thanks for getting her done! You guys are fortunate, indeed. May the 10X Sniper Scope never die!

New to Long Range Precision Shooting - Cold/Clean Bore Shots

I finally settled on running a patch of CLP, then 3 to 4 quick dry patches just to get some corrosion protection in the carbon. So far, so good. After about 300 rounds I clean the bore, copper and all, with Patch-Out when the accuracy degrades. Then I fire a few rounds to re-foul the bore so...

    Advanced Marksmanship "Reading" wind

Most people underestimate wind value. It's against human nature to deviate from target center when the center is the goal. Believe your calculations. Sometimes our gut says to fudge the numbers, but more likely than not we end up underestimating. Realizing that helps to speed the learing curve...

    Turning Necks---Who's Doing It? POLL

FWIW, the dreaded "donut", I've never had a donut travel up the neck far enough to get to the bullet's bearing surface, so I don't worry about that. A ball micrometer is what is used to measure neck wall thicknesses. So, to validate your point, you choose to use 100 yards (I assume, since...

Countersunk doesn't necessarily mean flush, but now I see what you were getting at. Exactly right. But, my point about the screws fitting was directed at MescaBug's post. Sorry, I should have done the quote thingy.

    M40a1 build guide

The oval head Remington screws fit the Winchester bottom metal screw holes just fine. Unmodified Winchester TG and FP have tapered countersinks just like the Remington bottom metal did. The builders had a choice to make. Apparantly they decided they wanted to use allen cap screws for torque...

Neck tension Federal vs Factory Lapua

Not necessarily. Bushings may get you the same ID, but differences in wall thickness, alloy, or annealing can also affect the tension. And if the necks are not uniform side to side and/or front to rear, all bets are off. IMO, bushing dies come into their own only when you turn the necks.

They are standard allen socket cap screws. They weren't trying to win any beauty contests.

Inconsistency with Sierra 168 matchking projectiles

And threads are a lot shorter when those that don't care don't post. Again, separate issues. Variation in ogive contours and meplats cause inconsistent COALs, not base-to-ogive variation.

Inconsistency with Sierra 168 matchking projectiles

And this would be my concern as well. It is a different concern than what you originally stated. If case capacity means anything, then seating depth at the base of the bullet should likewise be a concern. You could seat the bases all to the same depth by adjusting your micrometer accordingly...

    EAGLE- USA vs. offshore made

Thanks. So is the tag easy to see/find? Is it sewn flat, or sewn into a seam? Color? Size? Bottom line is I'm wondering if someone were to remove the tag, what kind of evidence would I be looking for?
