Latest version of the 14.5" 6 ARC. I hope this will be the last optic swap for a while. Currently torn between the Magpul MOE SL-S stock pictured below or going back to the B5 Collapsible Precision Stock.
I feel for ya. I am having labrum surgery on my strong side shoulder in May. I'll be down for up to six months but most certainly the first three. Not looking forward to not being able to shoot or fly but the silver lining is that it's hotter than hell down here during the summer so I won't be...
It's still that my man, recovering from unusual attitudes while under the hood or simply flying under the hood in general proves that what you perceive to be straight and level is often not even close. Always, always, always trust your instruments.
I ran an SLR non-adjustable on my Proof 18" and never had issues. Ejection was weaker with the 80 ELD-VT's but not to a degree where it impacted function. I don't think I could have gotten away with a non-adjustable on the shorter 14.5" I run now.
The only Defiance I would own is the Anti-X and that's for a very specific use, light weight hunting setup. I've never owned an ARC action so I can't speak to those. I have a few Bighorn TL3 actions and have never been disappointed with those.
Oh I get it. Once I decided to move out of the 1-10x I considered the TT315 (heavy, crap reticles, pricey), ZCO 420 (heavy, pricey), NX8 2.5-20x (meh glass) and the Mk5 3.6-18x (slightly less meh glass). I went with a piggy back RMR for the Mk5 instead of my usual ACRO P2, saved a whopping 1oz...
I ran the Vortex Razor HD Gen 3 1-10x on my 14.5" 6 ARC this past season and it certainly got the job done, although I never took a shot on game beyond 300. I have since moved that optic to another rifle to move to a new optic in hopes of gaining some more top end, a larger objective and a...
I still have under 400 rounds on mine, finding time to get to the range lately has been a battle. After 1000 or more I'd feel more confident about giving an honest review in that regard.
I love the bigger bolt handle ball, it makes for easier manipulation IMHO. That's an easy swap for any AI...
I agree, it would be nice to have shorter options in calibers aside from 308. I understand the immense SKU database they'd have to have in order to serve all makes in that manner but at least one shorty option would be nice.
I never owned an AT-X, my prior AI's were AT's and AX's but I have a lot of time on a buddies AT-X and it's definitely an improvement. I don't think it's markedly better but it's better, maybe 20-30% lighter?!
I've owned AI's, a Barrett MRAD and an older DTA and I would rank them in that order. I have never messed with a Cadex so I can't speak to that platform. Terminus rules the roost in the 700 clone world but I have never owned one of those either. Pretty happy with how AI does the barrel swap...
I really only have that barrel should I want to throw a clip-on on there for coyotes. I might pop the 6.5 Creedmoor off here in a few hundred rounds and shoot the 6 for a while, we shall see.
That's a bummer. I agree with Patrick, it might be time to move on and try the new 2nd Gen Sig Kilos. Sorry to hear about your repeated troubles, fingers crossed I don't experience the same.
