Hunting & Fishing help with rifle selection T/C or Tikka

Re: help with rifle selection T/C or Tikka I have no experience with the TC's at all but my buddy has the Tikka T3 lite in .270 Win. That thing shoots lights out and I have never felt an action smoother than a T3. He hand loads for it and it will routinely shoot .25-.5 MOA at 100 yrs. He...

Hunting & Fishing Is there anything to shoot in Socal?

Re: Is there anything to shoot in Socal? There is supposed to be some deer and pig hunting around the Palomar Mountain area. I have seen deer up around Julian and even several dead on the side of I5 through La Jolla. There is a game preserve in Torrey Pines and they wander off from time to...

    168 grn barnes tsx

Re: 168 grn barnes tsx I use the 168 gr. T-TSX exclusvely for my hunting rounds. They are devastating on game and are extremely accurate. I shoot them out of my Savage 10FP .308 Win. with 24" barrel. The load I settled on was 44.1 gr. of Varget in Lapua brass with CCI BR2 primers. I get...

Hunting & Fishing hunting in Southern California

Re: hunting in Southern California I am not sure about coyotes, but there is supposed to be some decent pig hunting around the Palomar Mountain area in North San Diego County. I travel to central CA to hunt yotes and pigs. Kern County has some decent coyote hunting and you can't beat...

    Hunting & Fishing non lead

Re: non lead That was a guided hunt and it was a guranteed hunt. No pig no pay and wasn't crazy expensive like most are. If you want more details just PM me and I will let you know. My twist rate is 1:10

    Hunting & Fishing non lead

Re: non lead I have the same problem you do with these Condors. Even though there has never been a condor killed in CA by lead poisoning we have this "knee jerk reaction" law that says because it is possible for a condor to ingest lead from a gut pile we have to ban lead ammo. Anyway...I...

Advanced Marksmanship What would cause this?

Re: What would cause this? Hey JACQ, I have a Savage 10 FP with 24" barrel in .308 with 1:10 twist. I shoot the 155 Scenars with 45.4 gr. of Varget and get a consistent 2800 +/- 10 fps out of my loads. I use Lapua brass and CCI BR-2 primers. I think you will be getting the velocity you...

    Hunting & Fishing coyotes w/mange?

Re: coyotes w/mange? Yes, coyotes can get mange. If you do a google search for "coyotes with mange" and look at images there is plenty of pictures and information about it. What you are describing almost sounds like they are shedding their winter coats. Many people have seen them and they...

    .308 OCW

Hey guys, I would appreciate any help or insight on this OCW I just did. Round robin method letting barrel cool at least 1.5 to 2 min. in between shots. It appears that groups 3 and 4 have roughly the same POI. It is hard to ignore group 2 though .204".

Re: What to do with barrel Thanks for the advise guys. I checked with Northland and he doesn't have what I want in stock. I checked with Shilen and they have a 25 month wait. I really am in no mood to wait 2 years for a replacement barrel. Can you guys recommend anything else? I guess I...

Gunsmithing What to do with barrel

Hey guys, I have a Savage 10FP in .308 win that is a couple years old. I probably have about 400 rounds through her (factory barrel). I have always known the barrel was rough as it takes me a few hours to clean even if I only shoot as little as 4 rounds, plus accuracy goes to $#!+ after about...
