Gunsmithing Bedding Compounds? Devcon still the standard?

It's been a while since I've used Steel Bed, about 4 years now, but if I recall correctly, it is just a bit thicker. When you buy just the compounds, they are very close in price. If you buy the Steel Bed "KIT", you get F**k**. The kit just brings a bunch of stuff you don't need. I only stopped...

Devcon, marine tex, and if you want to spend more for ultra "good stuff", try Belzona.

    Gunsmithing Cerakote Training????

It's required if you want to be listed on their page as an applicator. The procedure isn't brain surgery, and there's a lot of applicators that didn't take the course that are doing extremely good work with this product. I know of one in my town, and I don't mean me.

    Gunsmithing Guns n Roses...

I have to admit, that really is the cherry on top. The price for the work is very reasonable too. I'm on the tight side right now, but I can see that I'll be contracting Chad for this type work in the future on a rifle I want to build for my daughter. Looks great Chad!

    Gunsmithing custom bolt knob...

Anyone with a lathe can do what you want if you provide them with a drawing with the specs. I too recommend PCR.

Gunsmithing Stock barrel after truing action?

I agree with you, and like I said before, I do the whole enchilada or I do nothing. I leave nothing to doubt. What I said is that others do part of the job and call it good. I never have from day one. I think it was just misunderstood and nothing else.

Gunsmithing Stock barrel after truing action?

Jkob60, you should rethink what you just said. I never said that is what I do, or have ever done. I'm not a master gun building guru, but I've built a few that do alright. Your comment suggests that I don't have an idea about Remington 700 action, and I beg to differ.

Gunsmithing Stock barrel after truing action?

First, how does the rifle shoot now, and have you tried to improve that with hand loading? The quality of the barrel has more to do with accuracy than truing the action. Truing means different things to different folks. Tuning up an action doesn't include recutting the factory threads, just...

Gunsmithing PTG? Anyone know what's going on there?

I was told by them that they have been in the process of moving to a new location in an effort to expand. I too went through a longer than normal wait on a bolt body. I'm sure it's not a fast nor easy thing to move that size business with machinery to a new location. Maybe after all is settled...

    Gunsmithing Remington Action Truing Options?

I know I was mentioned in the beginning of this thread, and for the record I'd like to say that right after I posted the videos, I started using a jig like Roscoe uses. I felt its better than mine in that I'm not forcing the action to flex in order to get it aligned. This sometime puts pressure...

Gunsmithing I'm buying a lathe....prepare for lots of stupid questions....let's get started!

I couldn't agree more on this. Carbide is fantastic in so many ways, but with the money you save using HSS because you can sharpen it your self, you will be able to buy some of the other things you just can't do without. Especially when first starting to tool up for machine work. Once you have...

Gunsmithing I'm buying a lathe....prepare for lots of stupid questions....let's get started!

Tool holders are very nice to have a lot of, but if he's not in a big hurry, and depending on budget, I would concentrate on measuring tools and specialty cutters first. Buy the extra tool holders second is all I'm saying. Also, EBay as already mentioned is a great place to get quality used...
