Gunsmithing Why put bushings on a Remington bolt?

The Remington bolts are .696, and the actions usually .702 to .703. So a bit over .005 clearance. BTW, PTG will make you an action reamer to your specs if their standard reamer isn't to your liking. They will also make bushings to your specs.

Missed the part of it being an AI Stock. Scratch what I said. Sorry.

Gunsmithing Why put bushings on a Remington bolt?

Bushing bolt bodies is a thing of the past if you ask me. Why?? Well if you're looking to tighten things up a bit, then go ahead and ream the action raceway, and order a precision single piece bolt from PTG. It will cost close to what the smith will do with precision bushings, and be better. PTG...

    Gunsmithing How to remove bedding?

On my Bridgeport mill. Don't have a mill? Then a rotary file on a die grinder or a Dremel type tool. Make a bunch of shallow cuts really close to one another, and then use a dowel slightly smaller around as your action with 60 grit paper wrapped around it to remove just a thin layer of the old...

What is your favorite brake for .308?

I haven't read this thread, but if you want to know what brake I like most, then i have to say the APA Little Bastard at this time. I like the finish and looks of this brake. Oh, and how does it work??? Fantastic! Fact is, most all of them do work very well. I know because I was in the business...

Resizing brass from 308 to 260

Thank you guys. Neck turning is one of the only steps I have never done in all the reloading I have done. I guess I will be looking into the tool needed for this. I'm sure it is a good idea even though it's time consuming. I always thought it was something bench rest shooters did to squeeze...

Resizing brass from 308 to 260

I was expecting to see just that J.J., but I really didn't measure the neck wall thickness. I loaded one and test fit in the rifle. It went in very smoothly, and so I loaded up the other 21. I was a little apprehensive about running it through the rifle, but it ran just fine, and printed some...

Resizing brass from 308 to 260

Ok, I didn't listen to the first advise, because I have heard from to many guys that you can resize 308 brass to 260 brass. So, I went and set up my press with my full length resizing die, and tried a lubed 308 case. It went in and out like butter. It turned out just fine. I did 21 more, and...

Resizing brass from 308 to 260

I would like to know the proper way to change .308 win brass into .260 rem brass. I have a bunch of 308 brass, but shoot my 260 more often. I've never changed brass from caliber to another, and am clueless. I appreciate any help. Thank you.

I would first like to wish his wife a fast recovery. Something like this affects not just the financial part of the house, and the added work for dad, but it mostly affects the children. Kids don't completely understand, and get very worried and scared when they see mom or dad in these...

Gunsmithing PTG SA 700 1 piece bolt dimension, lugs to handle??

I just fit one today that did not fit the action until I trued the action. After truing which included removing .004 from the action abutments, the bolt cleared the action by just a couple of thousands. I'm sorry that I can't give you what you're looking for, but either the actions vary by a few...

AICS to bed or not to bed

I think I would just torque it to proper specs and shoot it first before doing any bedding. If it shot well enough for me, then I would leave it be. BTW, well enough for me out of a factory rifle would be somewhere in the 3/4 MOA consistently. Especially if I'm using it to hit steel plates at...

    Gunsmithing Rifle Bedding Video

LR-WSM, thank you very much for all your help today. Anyone can own an accurate precision rifle, but without the correct useful data, it's no better than a club. Your help turned my three rifles into reliable working systems. Again, thank you!

    260 remington vs 6.5 creedmoor

I shoot both, and on my rifles they run neck and neck out to 700 yards. After that the .260 has a slight edge on drop. Both do very well to the 1000 yard range I'm limited to. If you hand load, then I suggest the .260.

    Gunsmithing Rifle Bedding Video

Ok, we are going to meet up for two days of shooting on the 24th and 25th of this month. That's a Thursday and Friday. It will be a very small group of shooters. No more than 7. We are paying him $60.00 a day per shooter. First day we plan to shoot from about 12:30 PM to about 5 Pm. The...

    USPS problem!!

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I only send things USPS when it's not important, or of any value. Government run shit is just that, shit. They have no insentive to care. They don't even have real time tracking like UPS or Federal Express.

What scope are you running on you 22?

Now there's something you don't see everyday! I have a few vintage scopes similar to that, but not quite a programmer. I also have a Leupold Vari X 3 on my MPR, a 10x SWFA on my custom .22, a Nikon on my Volquartsen. All work just fine, especially on .22 rimfire rifles.

Gunsmithing Looking at action truing fixtures for chambering work? Which one?

The cuts you'll be making will be so light that there shouldn't be any chatter. However, if you want to be close to the chuck, take a look at what William Roscoe uses, which he made him self. I have done the same and highly recommend it. It is simple to use, and easy to make. I think there are...
