    Re: Best vintage long range calibers/rifles 30/06 filled the bill for years. If i recall, the most famous US sniper, Carlos H, used a 30/06 remington 700 or winchester 70 sporter style hunting rifle with redfield scope to obtain most of his legendary kills. its a classic, imo one of the best.

    Re: 6.5 or 6.8? i would go with the 6.8 not a long range "sniper round" like the 6.5 G is touted as, but it kills quick and is fairly flat like a 77 smk out to 400 yards or so.
