    Gunsmithing Bad Barrel

Re: Bad Barrel I tried to take some pictures but all I get is a shinny muzzle and a black hole. 300 sniper I hope your wrong on the installation costs but you're probably right. I was just wanting to know if anyone else had this problem before and what to expect when I talked with them.

    Gunsmithing Bad Barrel

Re: Bad Barrel It is copper fouling bad. It will not shoot better than 3/4 moa for more than about 20 rounds. After a serious cleaning I can still see bright copper well into the muzzle.

    Gunsmithing Bad Barrel

Has anyone ever had to return a barrel? I've got a bad one and was wondering what to expect when I talk with them. I believe that they will replace the barrel but what about the cost of the machine work. Do I eat the cost or do they? By the time you have a barrel fitted and a muzzle brake...

Gunsmithing Excessive Headspacing, please school me

Re: Excessive Headspacing, please school me As long as you are reloading for the cartridge you can go over the max headspace. This is no different than a bunch of the wildcats that are out there. There has to be some way of controlling (jamming in the lands or a false shoulder) where the...

    Expander ball??? Mandrel??? Redding Dies

Re: Expander ball??? Mandrel??? Redding Dies The expander is on the decapping stem. Screw the collet off that holds the decapping pin and then screw the expander off of the stem and put the collet back on.

    Expander ball??? Mandrel??? Redding Dies

Re: Expander ball??? Mandrel??? Redding Dies Most people don't use the expander in bushing type dies. Some say that the expander causes excessive runout. There is no need for the expander if you are using the correct size bushing and the case necks are not dented. I personally use the...

Re: Scope level; Scope or rail mounted? These are the ones that I like http://www.sinclairintl.com/product/5540/s It doesn't look like in the picture but they are offset just enough that you can see the bubble without breaking your cheek weld.

Measuring to the ogive and getting large variance

Re: Measuring to the ogive and getting large variance Use your comparator and sort your bullets first. The last lot of 6mm 95 SMK's had variances of .010". After sorting them I found that they fell into 3 different groups. I have been told that the bullets were coming off of three different...

    Gunsmithing another barrel fluting question

Re: another barrel fluting question I don't think there is one. I know Rock will flute a barrel a lot deeper than Krieger will (or at least the barrels I have got from them have been that way).

Gunsmithing Barrel Set-Back question Sendero/Varmint contour

Re: Barrel Set-Back question Sendero/Varmint contour Maybe I'm not understanding what your trying to say but adding a thicker recoil lug won't cause you to have to set the barrel back any more than a thinner one will. All you will have to do is set the barrel back enough to rechamber. You...
