Whats the most powerful round I can put in an AR-10 build?

You'll be challenged to shoot anything subsonic to 400 yards. Since you're limited to (about) 1125 FPS, those bullets drop like a rock. For example, assuming a 100 yard zero, a 220gr 30 cal bullet would need about 45 MOA of elevation to drop in there. That's roughly what it takes my 6.5 Creed...

Out of the loop: Lapua vs Alpha vs Peterson 2023 opinions.

I have all three and can't complain about any. I'd say buy whatever is in stock.

    Which 3-18 for me?

That's ok, not everyone is cut out for MOA.

    Which 3-18 for me?

Yep, I have 2, and I like them a lot. Was looking to go a little cheaper for this rifle, and would like more of a true tactical scope rather than a hunting scope with some tactical features.

    Which 3-18 for me?

Just to clarify. Have you been using the 3.3-18, or the 5.5-30 ?

    Which 3-18 for me?

Thanks guys. The Burris XTR3 illuminated does seem to stand out. My only hang up is the reticle. It doesn't have the thicker lines toward the outside like (for example) the Nightforce MOAR to draw your eye to the center, or allow you to "bracket" an animal at close range. Some feedback I've...

    Which 3-18 for me?

I know, another "which scope" thread... but this is a case of just not knowing what all is available. I've looked into the Leupold and Burris offerings, but not much else. Here some guidelines around what I think I want: - Going on a hunting rig, so while I'm not a pussy about weight, a tank...

Hunting & Fishing Let’s start a coyote thread.

Yes, but "punch right through" is not what you want with coyotes. Ideally, the bullet enters a few inches and explodes, dropping them in their tracks.

Several of these podcasts go into the "hows" and "whys".

I know 69 TMKs are pretty nasty on prairie dogs, but thats at 22-250 speeds.

Love a good coyote in the snow picture. Here's one from last weekend. The 6 Creed never disappoints.

    ar10 build... what caliber?

Why not .260 Remington? Not quite "rare" enough? Will do most everything the Creeds will do, but with extra 'cool kid' sauce. Trying to run oddball / unproven shit in an AR-10 might make you tear your hair out.

    Savage Impulse 1 year update

Thanks. I'm (probably unnecessarily) anal about torqueing evenly and consistently. Good and tight is probably just as good.

    Savage Impulse 1 year update

@shoots100 what did you figure out for torque values for the 4 screws that clamp the barrel extension inside the receiver? -- I've not been able to find anything. There's this thread, which has no answers besides "figure out what kind of bolt it is, then ask the internet"...

    How Many Firings???

If a new primer still goes in snug, they are likely ok. If you use a hand primer, you should be able to tell by feel if some should go into the 'fire one last time and chuck' pile. Of course you'd want to look them over for split necks and other defects. If you are able to, annealing them...

    Hard extraction 6.5 prc

When you first developed the load, was it with virgin brass? If so, it's usually undersized and the first shot spends some of its energy expanding it to the chamber walls. Or maybe your headspace was larger previously -- same idea. You could also be developing a 'carbon ring' in the throat, or...

243 Win 58 grain vmax powders

If you don't already have H4895, you may not be able to get it. As for finding powders that will work, try the Hodgdon site: https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/reloading-data-center They list a ton of powders for the 58 vmax.

243 Win 58 grain vmax powders

Funny, I am currently working up a nearly identical load (243, 20" 9 twist, 58v-max). I tested Varget and H4895. It may be just the lots I have, but I found H4895 to be much faster across the board. 43.0 grains gave me about 3850 fps out of a 20" barrel, whereas 44.0 grains of Varget (both...
