Reloading with the same weight bullet?

Re: Reloading with the same weight bullet? The standard rule is that if you change ANYTHING in the load recipie, you start over--that is start near min and work you way back up watching for pressure signs. Also note: as the caliber gets bigger the consequences of doing it wromg magnify...

Help Please - Do I need a small base sizing die?

Re: Help Please - Do I need a small base sizing die? This really does not sound like a small base sizing problem. But to determin what is causing the problem: A) find a fired case that causes a sticky bolt lift. B) color the whole cae with a sharpie (or equiv) C) insert case into chamber D)...

    can't close/ tight bolt.

Re: can't close/ tight bolt. As Flight762 indicates, give the die 1/16 turn in, size a case and then see if the unpowdered, unprimed cae fits in the chamber. If not another one or two 1/16 turn (just undr 0.001 inch) should address the problem.

    can't close/ tight bolt.

Re: can't close/ tight bolt. Based on the entire thread, you have not pushed the shoulder back far enough to allow the cartrige to fit in the chamber and allow the bolt to close effortlessly.

question about under loading the powder charge

Re: question about under loading the powder charge See secondary pressure spike at: http://www.shootingsoftware.com/pressure.htm What happens is that if the bullet starts to slow, the supersonic blast wave just behind it can run into the back of the bullet, reflect off, and detonate the...

Neck Sizing Die...Redding or Lee Collet?

Re: Neck Sizing Die...Redding or Lee Collet? I use a redding NO die from the competition kit (micrometer head with sliding sleave) and get excellent concentricity. But I'm going to state that in this case, it IS the Indian and not the arrow. A skilled reloader can take the LCD or the RCDS...

    Case trimmer recommendation

Re: Case trimmer recommendation I chucked the Lee Trimmer Cutting head in my Lathe. Then plop a case in the holder, press the holder to the spinning lathe and the case is done in less than 1 second--it takes more time to attach case to case holder and remove than it takes to trim. I can do...

Compressed Loads and Redding Competition Seater

Brand new Lapua brass looks like this???

Re: Brand new Lapua brass looks like this??? In my opinion, and what I do to each new lot of brass, is to "roundify" the mouth of the necks with a Craftsman punch (hand pressure only: making them too big but at lest round) and then size the necks with my standard reloading regimen. The punch...

    Switching Powder Question

Re: Switching Powder Question Duplicating the velocity is, to only a first order, close. But the stock answer is that anytime you change a component, you redo the whole load workup. So, start a little on the low side, and then work up slowly watching for pressure signs and find the accuracy...

    Loose Primer Pockets???

Re: Loose Primer Pockets??? Primer pockets lossening up is mainly a problem of too much pressure. I shoot a 308 load that is right on the edge of sane pressure limits (47.8 gr Varget with 155 Scenars) and have over 30 reload cycles on a set (50) WIN cases. I have not lost a single case to...

    Comperator or 'mic'

Re: Comperator or 'mic' I thin both the RCBS case mic's and the Hornady (n.e. Stoney Point) tools are fine instruments for gatherint the data that precision reloaders want. Both are capable of givng better measurements than the guns (at least mine) need, when used with care and dillegence.
