    savage short throat dilemma

    I almost wish I had your problem. I own 3 Rem 700 and they all have long throats, so I have to hand load to 2.94 to get close to the lands. All I can say is don't have it reamed too deep. Get a smith to ream it for the round you want to shoot.

    30 remington AR

    Hey Bill: I. too. have one of those old pump guns, in 30 Rem. Luckily, I also have one in 35 Rem, so I can still get ammo for it. The 30 Rem AR is just a shortened .308, and not close to the older cartridge. I got excited about it, thinking the same as you.

    Sorry .It's a 168 BTHP. My thoughts were: farther off the lands= lower pressure, and did not think the reduced volume would be such an issue.     I was trying some shorter {mag length} test loads today. My "accurate load", for my remmy 700 is 2.94, or 2 Ks off the lands. 44.7 Varget, federal brass and federal primers.     I have the 42, in 300 win mag, with a NF 8-32 on her. Europtic set it up for me. I never measured the rings to see what height they were. I'd just call THEM and ask. All nice guys.
