Ok I have a poll question M1A or AR10 SASS

SASS, hands down. I own both the DPMS and the M1A loaded. The SASS is more accurate. I like the M1A, and wouldn't sell it, but the Mag change is finicky, with out a lot of practice.

A bit disappointed with the "standard" AR accuracy with "standard" ammo...

Thanks for posting that, Waveslayer. I've been wanting another "accurate" AR. I have a Rock River Heavy barrel that I have not shot. Sits new, in the box. Just figured it would shoot OK, like most ARs, and it's lite for fun plinking someday. Maybe I'll try it out.

A bit disappointed with the "standard" AR accuracy with "standard" ammo...

Ditto., the ammo can dominate the guns potential . I got a Stag model 6 Varminter, which is a known shooter, for an out of the box gun. I Feed it PMC cheap ammo, and it shoots 2-3 in. groups. I've started testing hand loads, and some combinations are shooting into a penny. She's liking near max...

    Best Hog hunting caliber?

OK. Great feed back! Sounds like .308 or stronger, as I don't have a 6.8 [yet] . Have a Browning, but she's a new, unscratched, wood stocked version. Hate to think of pushing through heavy brush with it. M1A or AR-10, then. I have a couple scope options. 1X6 , or a 4X Acog. Also 4-16, which...

    Best Hog hunting caliber?

If I were to take one, or 2, for a hunt. .223, 30-30, 35 Rem.,.308, or 45-70? Thinking 300 Win Mag would be a bit over kill. Also a thought: bolt, Lever or Semi, in Texas? This will be my first serious Hog hunt. My "first" hog hunt, was as a last minute guest, with a borrowed 243, and I never...

    No Powder or Primers! Grrrrr!!!

My store just got stocked. Here's a store I found, on the net, that will ship, HAD everything... but... it's just a small gun store in Utah, and the "old guy" at the counter won't /can't do anything on the phone, when he's busy with customers. Christens, or Christensons, by memory. Dumped...

    Should I start reloading?

Absolutely! It's fun, "scientific", rewarding, AND cheaper than golf. I still use my simple RCBS "Kit", that I got 35 yrs ago. I did buy a progressive, for pistol, but still use the single stage for .45 auto. Good luck.

    50 Cal? INSANE?

Well, thanks for all the input. This has been an "interesting thread". Might re-think getting a fifty, IF I can get my balls back from my wife. She took them away, while I was sleeping. PS, I truly think Eric Cartmann is just spending some quality time with his son, or I truly HOPE that is the...

    Quick question about brass

Well then, I feel better. Thanks for that. Been reading a "bunch" of the reloading advice and trying to reload "better". Guess I'll just make some "pretty damn good ammo", and not perfect ammo. I read some comments about weighing cases, separating by "volume", etc. It's starting to drive me a...

    178gr Amax | H335 | NEED DATA | NONE FOUND

Ditto, +1, for the factory stuff, AND get the best money can buy. Compared to the cost of the trip, it's a no-brainer.

    Best way to "ship" ammo?

I'm going to Texas for a hog hunt. I want to get a weeks worth of my handloads [app. 500 rnds] down there. Is there a "better way" than driving them down myself? I'd like to ship my guns and ammo down, and fly, instead of driving for 2 or three days with a car load of guns and ammo. Thoughts or...

Would anyone actually enforce the law if I made my road a shooting range...Opinions?

I grew up "out in the sticks". There is a lot of monkey business that goes on , that NOBODY knows about.

    Quick question about brass

My brother had an older HK that mangled brass. 1/4 in. dent. I didn't buy it for that reason. The military "1 fired LC", I just got have small dents that will fire form out, but it really screws with case capacity/accurate loads.

    OK here's my stupid question

Not "coriolis", in Reno. It would be the "Casino affect". Otherwise, I have no idea why.

    Russian Ammo

It's getting better here, in the WAY east[Delaware] Last trip to the local gun shop was very encouraging. Stacks of PMC 223 1K boxes, lots of powder. They were even having a "SALE", this weekend on Colt, Stag, WLRC, and other ARs! What a change from last year.

    Reloading beginner

    Woah!!! You want to weigh to the tenth of a grain, at least! Or, maybe you're "caught" with the catch 22 of reloading explaining "grains", cause I called it like that with a friend. "I measured to the grain" (Meaning a single spec of powder}

What's REALLY going on during load development?

I understand your point. Another thought to ponder. I retired and time became less of a constraint. I found myself getting more and more "inquisitive" about my reloading. I started moving up in smaller increments, in charge weights. Played with COL a bit more. Tried different powders ( also due...

All the above. These 6mms, are "new" to me. Trying to keep up. >243 I know.

    50 Cal? INSANE?

My friend got "enthusiastic", when we saw a 50 cal on sale, at a local gun shop. We've been talking about going halves on her, and having "some REAL FUN" Well. I finally got an empty shell, from a guy, to take a look. HOLY SH__?!!! This thing is huge! The biggest I've got, is a 300 Win Mag...

    6mm,6.5 or 6? 6.8? What are they?

Before I spend an hour on the "search thing' I thought i'd ask it here. I can't find much, in my "book" on 6mm, except some wildcats. What,s a creedmoor. I see a lot of guy's lauding them. And while we're at it, what's a Wylde chamber, for 223?
