    338 Cheytac improved (snipetac)

I made them. Left to right: resizer, neck bushing sizer, and seater. I only use the neck bushing sizer for initial fire forming; because, the virgin case neck wall is different for each manufacturer and lot. I neck turn to uniform dimensions after fire forming. Cheers,

    338 Cheytac improved (snipetac)

I went down the SnipeTac road long before dedicated brass was available. All these images are Bertram brass. I will say that a 300gn Sierra moving 3500FPS will put a hole in 1/2” AR500 at 100y. There’s at least one hide member that has a picture of his center punched plate... Cheers,

    338 Cheytac improved (snipetac)

The trick to 338 SnipeTac is forming a false shoulder that will cam the case head into the bolt when fire forming. I just made a 375 Cheytac to 338 SnipeTac false shoulder forming die with the chamber reamer. The second op is with a neck die. Cheers,

    375 Snipetac Case Length

My trim to case length is 3.030”. That gives 13 thousandths of clearance in my chamber. I use a Giraud trimmer as part of my brass prep. The 35deg shoulder doesn’t have much case growth. Cheers,

    375 Snipetac Case Length

I’m running ing the same rig. I use the go-gauge to set back the shoulder. I use a shoulder datum reference attached to a caliper. Measuring the case length only tells you when to trim the cases. Maybe these photos will help

    Swarovski STR 80 20-60x vs 25-50x

When the reticle is off; it’s not displayed at all. Kinda nice having a clear view while studying the mirage. Cheers,

    CZ 457

Just a heads up. The DIP picatiny rail does not have slots in the center of the rail. So, none of my SPUHR or Larue picatiny mounts fit. Does anyone know if the SPUHR 4901 fits the 457’s dovetail? I know the dovetail is the same But, I don’t know if the clamp screws interfere with the bolt...

Gunsmithing Lathes for precision rifle building

Dang. How accurate are your smooth bore guns? ;-) Maybe minute of turkey at 50y?

    Swarovski STR 80 20-60x vs 25-50x

I bought my 25x-50x from Doug and gave my 20x-60x to a buddy. The 20x-60x tunnels a little. The 25x-50x has a tighter eye box. The wider FOV was worth it for me. I find it’s easier to spot trace and mirage. I’m happy with 50x for 3000y. If it’s a cool clear day the 60x may be better...

    ELR rifle build under way

These are the top three mistakes I made with my 375 SnipeTac build. 1) The scope rail screws need locktite blue. 2) The action needs to be bedded to the stock. 3) The old school reamers don’t have enough free bore for modern ELR bullets. Cheers,

    Digiscoping in the field

That was a Sony Alpha 6300. They are cheap used. The adapter is specific for the Nikon Fieldscope. It’s is a Nikon FS1. I’ve got a similar setup for my Swaro Str80. But, I prefer to use that to call splashes. The 4K videos really come to life on the big screen at home. It’s possible to...

    Digiscoping in the field

There’s an image of my rig in post #18 of this digiscoping thread. https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/camera-camcorder-as-a-spotter.6894365/#post-7662462 The HDMI adapter cable dangling off the back connects to a VR headset. That allows some minor light amplification. Cheers,

Swaro STR 80 MRAD - Reticle Leveling

That is the Swarovski base; with a KAC level on it. The bases are expensive because the kit includes two rails and screws. The top one has a sight cut into it. The side rail doesn’t. Cheers,

    Gunsmithing Lathe Selection

All good info Carlsbad. The 2” spindle bore bearings have more leverage than small spindle bearings and that makes it easier to make quality cuts. But, I’m deep down the ELR rabbit hole and it’s difficult to spin up an HTI barrel through a headstock with a 40mm spindle bore. The OP asked...

    Gunsmithing Lathe Selection

Just. In case you haven’t seen this I’m running the Kent made little brother of this lathe. It’s worked well. If this 2” spindle bore machine was available I would have gotten it. Although, I would get the 3-phase motor version with a VFD. This is a light duty machine; but, it is adequate...

    Gunsmithing Starter Lathe

I don’t see many Precision lathes near Lincoln, NE. You may have to travel. I suggest looking for a previously loved and cared for lathe. Condition matters. You don’t want to fight the lathe while you’re learning. Here is an example of the minimum amount of lathe to buy...
