Range Report savage 110 versus 111 action

Re: savage 110 versus 111 action The only thing you need to figure out is if your current barrel is a large shank or a small shank, Savage makes two different size's. I believe you'll see large shank barrels on the WSM's and target actions, I'm pretty sure you'll have the small shank. I'd...

    2nd day at the range

Re: 2nd day at the range I think overall you are doing extremely well given that you are using your hand to support the rifle in the rear. The advise that I will give is to use a sand sock or sand bag to support the rear of the rifle and use your left hand to squeeze the rear bag to adjust...

    F T/R Competition Savage F/TR Short chamber? 175 SMK C.O.L.

Re: Savage F/TR Short chamber? 175 SMK C.O.L. I've got a 10FP LE that measure's the same as your's. My barrel is 24" though. I shoot this load at a coal of 2.780 for a .020 jump. Varget is slightly compressed in Winchester brass at 44 grains, and I'm getting 2640 fps with it. Regards, Dan

Re: Go to .308 default load 168 SMK 43.5 Varget Fed 210M primer Winchester case average of 2.801 This is a load I developed trying to mimic FGMM, if using federal brass I lower charge to about 42.5 of Varget.

    Boattail....not always the best!

Re: Boattail....not always the best! If I could get it shooting 1/2 inch 3 shot groups at 100 yards I would be very happy. It's a sporter contour barrel and I use it for whitetail dear out to about 250 yards. I also like it for woodchuck's but with the way it shoots now I'm limited to around...

    Boattail....not always the best!

Re: Boattail....not always the best! It's a factory Savage 110 .243 barrel I'm thinking it is close to 1-10, I will have to measure it again, but right now I'm kind of disabled do to shoulder surgery I had on May 11th. I had an impingement and slight tear of the rotater cuff.

    Boattail....not always the best!

Re: Boattail....not always the best! Well, with the .243 I never did get it to shoot the way I wanted, using nosler BT, couldn't even get 1 MOA at 100, but close, I'm looking at the 90 gr Speer Hot-core spitzer, or the Speer TNT 70gr hollow point's. I've been focusing on my 2 .308's lately...

    Boattail....not always the best!

Re: Boattail....not always the best! boltgunlovr, glad you started this thread as I have never even tried loading up FB bullets before, but from a lot of the responses here I have a great interest in trying some out. I'm definitely a big fan of accuracy and will give it a try. Back when I was...

    Boattail....not always the best!

Re: Boattail....not always the best! I'd say that it depends on the distance that one plans on shooting. Flat base may be superior for short range. Boat tail is superior at long range.

    shaved copper on my bullets

Re: shaved copper on my bullets You know what boggles my mind is how come factory ammo such as FGMM has absolutely no chamfer what so ever. You'd be able to see a chamfer on a spent piece of brass but I even looked with a magnifying glass and could see that there was no chamfer what so ever...

    Buying Lee

Re: Buying Lee Lee works great for me, although I had a shell holder for the case trimmer that was out of spec and I sent Lee a Email, explaining the problem and they sent me a new one first class mail, no questions asked. I am a big fan of the collet die also.

    F T/R Competition Results Odessa FV250yd F-Class

Re: Results Odessa FV250yd F-Class Scott and Andy, that was amazing shooting you guy's did, putting about half your shots on the v in those conditions, requires knowing how to shoot in unstable windy conditions. The temperature rose about 5 degree's in the first relay. Good shooting everyone.

New to hand loading for 308. Questions about dies

Re: New to hand loading for 308. Questions about dies Don't forget case lube, and shell holder's. You will need a shell holder for your press and one for your priming tool. If you've got the money, get the redding dies although lee dies will do the job and if any Lee products seem to be out...

F T/R Competition Battling mirage while on the range?.....

Re: Battling mirage while on the range?..... Try making a mirage shield, by putting 3 velcro piece's on barrel and same for underside of shield, the lighter the material the better. However this only helps with mirage from barrel heat. I have made a super long sun shade that goes the whole...

    1000yd Slug Gun (Shotgun)?

Re: 1000yd Slug Gun (Shotgun)? There's nothing wrong at all with having a little fun doing thing's that aren't very popular, 1000 yard hits, don't let anybody tell you it can't be done. I'd fasten the steel plate tipped back at the top to accept a incoming round at about 45 degree's. or...

Short throat on factory Savage 10FCP HS?

Re: Headspace issue on factory Savage 10FCP HS? I have the exact same coal measurement in my 10fp with the 175 smk. I'm seating to an average of 2.780 with really good results. I think it is a great advantage to be able to get to the lands and still be under mag length, another positive thing...
