Rifle Scopes Vortex RAZOR HD Gen II vs. Steiner M5xi

I looked through both this last weekend at the TBRC. Both are excellent! I really liked the SCR reticle, and the glass on the Steiner. The Vortex also has extremely good glass. One big difference between the two is weight. Vortex is over 40 oz, and the Steiner 5-25 is like 28oz. I think the...

2014 TBRC AAR and Pic Thread

Oh, I tightened up to begin with! They said Ty vs. Terry Cross and my BH tightened up like a snare drum and didn't let up until after long range!!! I just came out lucky is all. Thanks again for the pod lock you gave me and all the things I learned from you by just watching. It was truly an...

2014 TBRC AAR and Pic Thread

Ok, I'll give my AAR. We all arrived at the shoot on Friday for sign in and sight in. We were all given the most amazing swag bag I have ever seen. VERY nice hoodie sweat shirts, long sleeve t-shirts, a patch, and even a coffee cup! I was blown away, and whats more is that team NorCal has the...

2014 TBRC Match Info 10 days out.

Wow, what a match! There is a reason that all matches are measured up against the TBRC because its that good! Vu, and the RO's did an outstanding job of putting together a seamless match that was challenging and fun. I have to say that the dueling spinner stage was maybe one of the funnest...

Rifle Scopes New Steiner T5Xi Tactical Rifle Scopes

I was able to shoot the side match. The scope is awesome to say the least. The reticle was my favorite part to a real great complete package. Then to make it better, I was able to finish high enough to grab one of the coupons off the table! I'd like to give out a big thanks to Steiner for...

TIS. Great sling. Doesn't hold a candle to the SAP though.

Short Action Precision rifle sling review

The importance of a quality rifle sling can not be over stated. This is especially true in precision tactical competition. When used properly, slings add significant stability in positions such as standing, kneeling, sitting, prone unsupported, and barricades, just to name a few. The idea in...

Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

So I was reading over the last couple of pages and saw a couple questions that I could help answer. Brown Dog said he couldn't get his mags to drop free. The solution I use is very thin electrical type washers in between the skin bolts right next to the mag well. Now the mags drop cleaner than...

Jewel trigger failures in the field?

I was at the New Mexico PRS match this last weekend. It was the worst conditions that probably exist for equipment. 20-40 MPH wind in a literal sand storm with silt sized particulate. It broke everything. Timney, Jewells, hell even the AI's had issue. Point in fact, even my Glock 34 quit...

    Barrel Life Expectancy

You should only clean your rifle when your accuracy degrades. For me in the 6.5 Creedmoor, this happens about every 400-500 rounds. Every time you scrub your barrel you scrub away barrel life. With a 30 cal, you should be able to extend your cleaning by a bit. A 308 should last a damn long...

Can a Savage be made into a competent tactical gun?

I agree 100% and hope they continue by not changing their action. If they did this the aftermarket would further support them, then eventually someone would create a custom action in a Savage foot print. When it got to that point it would rock! Ty

Can a Savage be made into a competent tactical gun?

I know that, I am one of the 50 guys that made that list possible. So what your point? 44 of the other guys rifles are Remington clones. All of the parts are Remington parts. This is exactly what I am talking about. If Savage, or any other (Ruger, Browning, FN, and so on) had half a brain, they...

Can a Savage be made into a competent tactical gun?

I guess this is pointed at me. I have no dog in this fight. I shoot for DTA, Kahles, Barnes, and Delta P Designs. I am not brand loyal to anything except the people who support me. Neither Remington nor Savage support me. The facts are this. If you want an accurate out of the box rifle with...

Can a Savage be made into a competent tactical gun?

This really isn't the case. Of the 50 of us at the 2013 PRS Finale, all but 6 were running custom Remingtons. 2 guys ran AI, 2 with Tikka, 1 Badger and my DTA were the only non-Remingtons. Surgeon, Defiance, Big Horn, Stiller and McMillan are all Remington foot print. Ty

Can a Savage be made into a competent tactical gun?

The military, sears, lock up, and all the other stuff mentioned have very little if any thing to do with anything. The reason Remington or Remington clones (Defiance, Surgeon, and so on) are used in custom guns is very simple. They have not changed the Remington 700 one time in 52 years...

Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Your sight height is measured from the centerline of your bore to the centerline of your scope. I have found that 2.63 has worked extremely well. The true test of this is to shoot period points on a paper at 10 yards (We do this in competition often). Your sight height is really important in...
