Redding Type-S Neck Sizer die... What gives?

Re: Redding Type-S Neck Sizer die... What gives? Get rid of the expander! Problem solved. If you want to be extra anal you could turn the outside of the necks to remove any high spots.

Rifle Scopes Hybrid field/bench spotting scope stand (DIY)

Good day ladies and gents. A little while back I was looking over the various options for spotting scope stands, in particular the low mount tripod type that shooters use in the field. These come in various shapes and sizes and can be used for observation thru to F-Class. For those in the United...

Spotting scope for 1+ mile shooting/observation.

Re: Spotting scope for 1+ mile shooting/observation. I recently brought a Pentax PF 80 ED back from San Fran. The things bloody awesome! On a good day I can see holes at 500m (550Y)in the white and even in the red rings on our targets. For the $900 or so that the unit cost, I cannot really...

This is how long it takes me to load 100 rounds

Re: This is how long it takes me to load 100 rounds My times are a little longer if Im prepping match ammo. I have a two stage sizing process, so double the time you guys would have listed down. I also anneal cases so thats an extra 25 minutes from 100 cases.

    Which Headspace Measuring Tool

Re: Which Headspace Measuring Tool Hornady tool is what I use. Seems to be working well so far. I do wonder tho, could you get greater accuracy with bushings for individual case types rather than generic ones? Only reason I ask is because I want to set an FL die up to that it meets SAAMI...

    mixing brands of dies?

Re: mixing brands of dies? Mix and match to your hearts content. I use a Lee die to decap everything, I use Redding dies to do some parts, Forster dies to do other parts. For my .308 I use a combo of Lee Decapping, Redding Bushing Neck sizer, Redding Bushing FL sizer with expander removed...

    Cleaning Lube off Cases?

Re: Cleaning Lube off Cases? I use an old rag to clean off the Imperial. I probably should run thru the SS tumbler again, as residual sizing wax inside the necks gets brass shavings stuck to it from chamfering.

    Concentricity woes...

Re: Concentricity woes... First off, measure the run out of a fired but not sized case. Measure at the case neck obsiously. Note down the measurement. Now size that piece of brass and measure. If the runout has gone up, the die is your problem. It is common, and perhaps standard, for an FL...

    Win brass or lapua??

Re: Win brass or lapua?? I have both Lapua and Winchester cases for my .308win. The lapua stuff is what I use for shooting groups and long range... the Winchester stuff is for a rainy day. Its still good brass but as Carter mentioned, the necks are thinner. I find that Winchester neck...

308 Dies - Forster or Redding??

Re: 308 Dies - Forster or Redding?? I have both Forster and Redding dies. I really like Forster products just that little bit more and this is especially true with their FL sizing dies.

finally got pics posted results of my ladder tests

Re: results of my ladder tests. +1 for trying, but the ladder should imo be done no closer than 300 yards. 400 works great, 500 is much better and anything further yields vastly superior end results but can be tricky with spotting shots.

    OCW Fine Tuning

Re: OCW Fine Tuning Confirmation and concept grasping are two different things. To perform an OCW at 100, and then rock up to a 1000 yard match expecting the same performance, in my eyes is over confident and foolish. As I said, no harm in confirming (besides using some components).

new to reloading, hornady or rcbs?

Re: new to reloading, hornady or rcbs? RCBS gets my vote. If not that brand, Forster. Good dies, good presses.

Media for Thumler's Model B Tumbler?

Re: Media for Thumler's Model B Tumbler? Its probably one of the better investments I have made of recent times. Saves my hands, and I get really excited whenever I open up the barrel after a cycle. Its even more exciting when you find heaps of good once fired at the range, take it home and...

Media for Thumler's Model B Tumbler?

Re: Media for Thumler's Model B Tumbler? Gunner75 that will do heaps. Last night I ran 50 x WSM, 50 x .308, 100 x 7.62x39, 20 x .30-06 and an assortment of random cases. 2 hour run and it was all clean. I have gone extreme and put in a few hundred .223 cases in at the one time. The tumbler...

    OCW Fine Tuning

Re: OCW Fine Tuning SABuzzard no harm in confirming. Take that load out far and you will see any vertical dispersion really start to show up. You may find you need to tweak around with minor powder adjustments, maybe even seating depth... but by all means, confirming what you have at longer...

annealing: to dunk or not to dunk

Re: annealing: to dunk or not to dunk My vote is not to dunk. If you do everything properly the neck should be heated rapidly to its annealing temp, and the case removed from the heat source. The case heads will get hot, but not enough to cause any changes in the metal. I have tested both...
