    Reloading for 300 Win Mag

Max on Hodgdons site is 78. I'm just starting to work up a load with this combo in my 5r, but between77.2 and 78 is showing promise. Forgot my chronograph at home so no velocities.

Belted magnum: to neck size or full length size

I use the Redding f/l die on my 300 set to bump the shoulder ~.001. Everything functions perfect and brass has five firings and has not needed to be trimmed. Pick up a set of Hornady headspace gauges, $30 and works great.

    Advice on Predator gun..

My experience with the 243 is it is harder on fur than the 22 flavors if it matters to you. Bullet selection can help, but I still pick my 22-250 when fur is prime. For a budget choice don't overlook the Howa 1500/Weatherby Vanguard. It's a good solid rifle that is as accurate as any factory...

    Picking a scope base

I have a Weaver 20 moa base on my 300 and I have no complaints. It is a great piece, especially on a budget. Whatever you get definitely make it a 20 moa for long range.

    Bolt vs Semi accuracy groups.

The size of the group should relate to the type of rifle and the role it will play. It makes no sense to shoot five or ten round groups out of a pencil barreled mountain rifle when it will only be shot once or twice at a time in the field. If it is a competition rifle that will need to maintain...

300 WM H1000 or HC4831sc for 210gn Nosler accubond LR??

Try them both if possible. H1000 is the more popular choice, but I had better accuracy with 4831 when shooting 190's.

    300WM precision hunting rifle

I have a 700 5r that I use in the same role. I dropped it in a b&c stock cause I hated the one it came with. It shoots as good as I can and the price was less than a some you mentioned. They can be hard to find, but not impossible.

Mag primers in a non mag cartridge

I have used magnum primers in all the calibers I load for (223, 22-250, 30-06) with no issues. Just work up loads with them like normal. Don't substitute them in a hot load without backing off the charge a bit and checking for pressure signs. Some sources I have seen recommend magnum primers...

Bell & Carlson stock: 1 problem, 1 question

The recoil pad on mine is screwed on. Look for slits cut top and bottom. To open up the barrel channel, I have used sandpaper wrapped around a dowel of the correct size. Just be careful to keep it centered, its very easy to drift to one side.

Rifle Scopes Are Burris Extreme Tactical Rings going to get the job done?

I have a set on my 300WM and they have been great. On an ar you will need the highest they make or a riser of some sort.

    hard to find .22lr ammo?

Re: hard to find .22lr ammo? I've noticed it locally (I have never bought ammo on-line). I'm not going to get too worried yet, just got to be patient and keep checking the shelves.

    .223ai, 260 rem, or .308? budget build.

Re: .223ai, 260 rem, or .308? budget build. 260 will have better ballistics, but I'd stick with the 308 from a budget standpoint. If you are already set up for 308 and are trying to pinch pennies, there is no reason not to. And with the right components it's not much more expensive to shoot...

    Long Action Caliber???

Re: Long Action Caliber??? Another vote for 6.5x55. Hard to beat for anything but hunting very big animals at extremely long range, and you already have a 300WM for that.

    Tactical Shooting sticks

Re: Tactical Shooting sticks They are pretty quick, I'd say 2-3 seconds to open and get the legs locked. They have elastic cords running through them like a tent pole, you just untie the cord holding them closed and shake a little to get the sections all connected. I love mine for hunting. I...

    7MM or 300 win

Re: 7MM or 300 win The 7 will have better ballistics and be perfectly effective out to reasonable distances for hunting. The 300 will hit harder, but out to 600-700 yards i doubt any deer will be able to tell the difference. For what it's worth I went with the 300.

    Nikon 2-7x32 P22 Riflescope

Re: Nikon 2-7x32 P22 Riflescope I got one last year and returned it a week later. I'm sure i got a lemon 'cause the groups were a vertical string of about 2" at 50 yards from a gun that shoots about 3/4" at the same distance with a different scope. I would have sent it in for repair, but...

Hunting & Fishing Your longest kill...

Re: Your longest kill... I got a coyote last year at 519. Dropped him in his tracks. Just got another one Thanksgiving morning at 391. R700 5r 300wm shooting 190 Bergers.

    brass catcher for AR

Re: brass catcher for AR I got the Caldwell one and I like it for shooting from the bench. I haven't had any issues with it causing malfunctions, but I only use it for targets, not in the field.

    Rifle Scopes Vortex Viper PST

Re: Vortex Viper PST I am by no means an expert, but here's my opinion. Get the FFP. I got my first FFP scope about a year ago and I have noted any problems getting used to it. Even if you don't range with the reticles the hash marks are on at any magnification, which makes it easy to use as...

Fieldcraft Do you sound like a fool?

Re: Do you sound like a fool? So I'm a fool for pronouncing a word the only way I have ever heard it? I don't do research on every word I use to make sure I know the origin and pronunciation perfect according to a foreign language. I guess if that makes me a fool I will just have to live with...
