    Hunting & Fishing Coyote

I was sitting in my hide (my front porch) last evening in my carefully selected camo when this coyote came of the corn field around dusk about 100 yards away. It was DRT with a .308 caliber Nosler 168 gr. BTHP Match bullet out of my M1A.

Hunting & Fishing Ordered the gun, now I need a scope! What are your favorites!

I have a scope with 16X on the top end and it doesn't get used much. When you get into the higher power scopes, you have to adjust for parallax which is a bother when hunting. For hunting scopes, I've found 7X, 8X, 9X and 10X powers on the top end very adequate for shots up 400 yards and even...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Hollowpoint Feeding - Glock 19

The recoil spring is about 6 months old. The bullets are Barnes 115 gr. XPB bullets which have a pretty wide hollowpoint that catches on the barrel a little below where the feed ramp starts. I don't think polishing the feed ramp would help; I think the feed ramp would actually have to be...

    Changing primers

In that case, I'd stick with the old load, i.e., powder charge, and not worry that the velocity was a little higher. In fact, I'd be quite happy with it.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Hollowpoint Feeding - Glock 19

I have a Glock 19, probably first generation as I bought it a long time ago, that chokes on hollowpoint bullets. I was wondering if changing to an after market barrel of current manufacture would alleviate this problem?

    Changing primers

I have some questions and observations: 1. Is the accuracy the same with both powder charges? If accuracy is the same, I wouldn't decrease the load just to get the same velocity. 2. How did you determine there was a velocity difference in the loads? Were the loads comparing the two...

Federal small rifle primer slam fires

The primers I've used the majority of the time to reload for an M1A have been Federal 210M primers and I've never had a problem with them. There are closed bolt and open bolt slam fires. Closed bolt is no big deal unless the gun is pointed the wrong way but open bolt is entirely different. I...

Hunting & Fishing One or maybe 2 rifles for SOUTHERN Africa

If I were doing it: 1. One would be a 375 H&H Magnum. It is legal for ANY type of hunting in Africa where hunting is allowed and ammunition is available. As for the light rifle, I'd probably go for a 243 Winchester, a 308 Winchester or a 300 Winchester Magnum; probably the latter. 2. As...

Hunting & Fishing First time hunter, have a few questions.

I remember when I bought a Nightforce scope and then took it Pronghorn Antelope hunting. I had read up on mils and how to adjust the turrets for different ranges. I was up for the first Pronghorn and took a couple of shots from the prone position at probably 150 yards if my memory serves me...

Hunting & Fishing First time hunter, have a few questions.

    1. So you bought a 30/06 with gorgeous wood. If you want to continue that theme, you should probably get a scope with a gloss finish unless the rifle has a matte finish receiver/barrel in which case a matte finish scope would be esthetically OK. That said, I have a Leupold Mark 4 on a 378...

How to handle a severely drug addicted friend?

As others have mentioned, there is no helping her until she is admits her problem and wants help. Long gone are the days where you could have someone "committed" for a drug problem. They can't be committed unless they are in imminent danger of suicide (abusing drugs doesn't count) or have...

Hunting & Fishing I'm no hunter but I need advice on a scope for hunting

Of the choices you give I'd also go with the 2-8X Nikon. I would prefer a used Leupold Mark 4 though which I could probably get for about the same price.

    Neck lube?

I think pretty much all bottle necked cases require neck lube unless you like a struggle with the expander button. Tumbling will remove the lube. I use stainless steel media which removes the lube and interior dirt.

Hunting & Fishing Largest animal killed with a 22lr

Several things: 1. I've read the Capstick story about the 2 elephants. It didn't take hours for them to die though the went 100 to 200 yards before expiring. 2. I'm aware of 2 instances where shooters were trying to scare off deer with pellet rifles and ended up killing them. 3. I saw the...

    Hunting & Fishing New Glass

I agree. Though I do have scopes with more magnification than 7X at the top end, a Leupold 2-7X scope is what sits on my 204 Ruger and it's quite sufficient for 400 yard shots. On the used and even the new market, one will come in at a lot less than $800. I've also bought Leupold Mark 4...

    Ear plugs, electronic?

When I'm hunting, I use EAR, Inc. custom fitted electronic hearing protectors. They're very effective even when I'm shooting a braked 460 S&W Magnum handgun. If you're spending thousands of dollars on guns, I think it's worth it to spend some to protect your hearing. For target shooting, I...

Hunting & Fishing Ohio Coyote Hunting.

At least around here the coyotes seem to be mostly nocturnal with occasional random forays during the day. There was one by my driveway when I came home very late several weeks ago. I've shot several during the day or evening hours and recovered the first one in the fall of 2011 when I just...

Hunting & Fishing What's the best way to get skunk spray off of your dog?

This is what I learned from someone whose dog it happened to. Coca Cola to the entire dog, allow to dry and then wash. Allegedly the dog will, after this treatment, be ready for close human contact again.

    primers

I've never had an issue either.
