308 Win and 338 Lapua Magnum suggestions

Without a doubt get the Giraud comparator tool for measuring .338LM headspace and ogive. It's an extremely well made tool for short money. I have decent results with the 285 ELD-M but haven't tried any of the others. I'm not using any of those powders in it.

Welcome to the Hide. You can buy in the PX right away, but you can't post a WTB until you have 100 posts, but you can buy those posts. Take a look at the site Rules posted as a Sticky on the PX forum and that will explain how to do it. Best of luck finding that glass and enjoy your stay.

Walstr from Cheesehead Country - signed up yesterday.

Let me make sure I understand you correctly. Your sons are proposing a competition but you are loading all your ammo - and theirs. It sure sounds like there is the opportunity for a lesson in this for them and it is your duty as a father to teach them. I predict good times to be had by...

    Not new just returning

New members with zero posts can buy from the PX. It takes 100 posts or buying in to place a listing. You show 819 posts, I think you're in. Welcome (back) to the Hide.

I've been told that .338LM is not welcome on the plates of the 1,000 yard range but is allowed on the 1 mile range. If that were not the case, I'd be a member.

With the price of ammo up and availability down, Poors need only shoot once.

    Big League Conflict of Interests.

This is more than just a conflict of interest, it is dereliction of duty and gross misconduct. It is not the domain of the judiciary to rule according to what they feel the law ought to be, it is their duty - which is not optional - to weigh the evidence before them and apply the law as written...

    South Carolina checking in

Nice! I have 400 in GA. I'm itching to get further. I've been beyond that one time and managed a first round hit at 906 and about 50% on the rest. Target was about 2 MOA square. There was a 1-1/2 MOA target at 960 but I got skunked. Couldn't see impacts in the mud and brush but mostly because it...

Welcome neighbor from Pickens County. Clinton House Plantation in Clinton, SC has a 1,000 yard range. They also have 1 mile but it is only open sporadically. There are DNR ranges (public and free) in Pickens and Spartanburg Counties. Spartanburg rifle goes to 200 but you shoot through a concrete...

    338 Lapua Magnum

You mentioned in post #112 that another sized case chambers just fine. It pretty much narrows it down to seating. I highly doubt that this was done during chambering. It would have taken a lot of force. Try doing what I suggested in post #115. You shouldn't have to taper crimp this cartridge...

    .338 Lapua Load Data

I've loaded both these projectiles in my RPR. To reliably fit the magazine, the 285 gr. ELD-M is CBTO 2.910" with a jump of 0.080" to the lands. I tried several deeper seating depths (longer jump) and the group sizes were essentially the same. I seat to 2.90" for a jump of 0.090" because I don't...

    338 Lapua Magnum

The problem is that your seating die is not properly adjusted. You have the die screwed in too far so it is trying to crimp the neck while the seating stem is still trying to seat the bullet in deeper. This results in crushing and deforming the entire neck and shoulder of the case. Back off...

    Ram boy

Howdy neighbor from upstate SC. I broke my teeth on bottleneck rifle cartridges with .223 Remington after thousands of pistol rounds. It's a whole 'nother ballgame. Only had case head separation once. Measure chamber and cartridge headspace and watch carefully how much you bump those shoulders...

    The ATF Backed Down.

They are just biding their time and counting on "further Department of Justice review" to be with the Pretender Elect's minions, likely Beto O'Dourke. What is instructive is the notice posted above acknowledged that it wasn't even a regulation (it certainly isn't law), but was only a notice of...

Hunting & Fishing Whitetail Deer and cattle

I've seen cattle and deer together occasionally, but not often. They may be in the same field, they might even be somewhat close, but they aren't intermingling. Horses are a different story. Horses have decent eyesight and seem to be more curious and aware of their surroundings. If all the...
