New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
As noted above in this thread, the .250-3000 sold. To a collector. Where the OP was happy to get it to, as that person was very appreciative to get it.
I did not know the Stith mount had collectability with these. I had a Pachmyr tip-off that was made for these. But, since it was drilled and...
As an update, in communication Habu64, the .260-3000 sold to a local collector. Who, according to Habu, did a backflip when he heard about it and saw it. I hope he sold it for more than a backflip. ;) 😁
Serial number will help tremendously if I can find the website again that dates them. Definitely later than 1909 as the .250-3000 didn't come out until 1915. First year production serials started at 175,000 and went through to 177,000~sumpin' Which would still put yours in the 19-teens...
Both are great rifles. Can you get a pic of the lettering on the barrels? That'll kind of narrow the date of manufacture down. FWIW, I've owned one each of these and found them to be quite accurate...for an old hunting rifle. Also, is there a flat button on the bottom of the forestock? If...
Do you know if it's single or double based powder? Any idea what kind of, or type (method of application) of burn retardant is used?
As an aside, 4064 has been around since the fifties. It was the first powder to have a burn retardant used to enhance stability of the spreads. It has changed...
Mine will not load a single spitzer from the magazine. Not paying the atrocious prices where I can find round nose loaded ammo.
ADDED: tried different seating depths, no fix. So, it's mostly the profile of the case in relation to the shape of the magazine followers.
It was a general statement about military vs. civilian rifles, not the 1909 specifically. It helps if you read and comprehend what's being said before going off and spouting about what we don't know about customized military rifles.
They don't make that kind...
In response to the OP. That looks like shit. If it don't shoot, you're probably out what you paid. Next time, get a quality barrel. Or, as I assume this may be a custom, find a competant gunsmith and get in line.
So, what's the difference between M118LR and Mk316? I know we've talked about it, but none of the details of what it is.
What specifically is your issue with M118LR? Velocity? Accuracy?
No, one supplier. Each goes through their supply chain to get it. Once it gets it's nomenclature, that's it.
added: 'Supply Chain' is the command within each branch that procures given weapons and ammo for that branch. You don't get M118LR 'with some extra'. You get M118LR that meets spec...
No, there are no differences between the same nomenclature ammo. Each branch goes to their source to get it. HOWEVER, over time the civilian factories that produce ammunition get/have permission to vary the loads based on their testing. As long as it falls within their basic parameters (the...
