    Winchester 70 Heavy Barrel

I'm not a collector or 'expert', but that safety you mention looks like a 'butterfly' safety. That's not a later safety, it's an earlier one. Can you get closer pics?

At What Point Do They Become Vintage

Yeah, the tighter twisted .22-250 will give you more options when it comes to range and what bullets you can stabilize. If the second rifle is a 1-9" twisted SLR, it should give you good stability with a 140 gr. HPBT bullet. However, if you want to rebarrel it, I would go a 1-8" twist. Which...

At What Point Do They Become Vintage

The 50 year interpretation only came about a couple of years ago. IMO, vintage is something that isn't seeing first line use anymore. For instance, a 30-06 is still a first line cartridge. But older iron-sighted firearms are vintage. A German Mauser that was built during, or shortly after...

If you ever want a fun, easy shooting cartridge, the 7X57 is it. Plenty of power and not much recoil. Also vey ballistically efficient. That's when loaded to normal pressures. Can't load them up like .308 based cases. Too much taper and you'll fight brass ever after if you do.

Boyds makes some pretty nice stocks. And, when they do them, they are pretty much drop in. Agree with the above it's an FN -30 which is a year not a caliber/cartridge. And, yes, 7x57. It should take a standard model 98 stock. NOT an intermediate stock like a YUGO M48. I've heard people...

Did you go to your gunsmith and see what he say's the cartridge actually is?

    Winchester Model 54

Well, from what has been said and seen so far, it would appear that if your chamber is shorter than a standard .22 Varminter/.22-250 you should have enough material to take it out to a standard .22-250. It'll then be easy-peasy. No fire-forming, and easy cycling of that bolt. Hopefully your...

I didn't see that picture from before. A lotta pics, but not that one. How far ahead of the boltface is the extractor protruding?

    Winchester Model 54

What's with the bent rim? Dumb question, cuz I'm a dum guy, You did check headspace by first putting the case against the boltface with the rim under the extractor? And, no pics of chamber or your own boltface? Or, feed it from the magazine? Where's @Skunk when you need him, he might have...

    Winchester Model 54

Unless this defies standard gunsmithing practices, there should be what looks like a counterbore, at the base of the chamber, the diameter of the rim. If you have a rimmed cartridge. Rimmed cartridges headspace on the rim, not the shoulder. You can fireform them and headspace off the shoulder...

    Winchester Model 54

So a good inspection light into the chamber area will tell you if it's a rimmed or rimless case. Added: you should be able to make a .225 Win case out of a .30-30.

I just thought of something. What you could have is a 'short chambered' .22-250 (sorry, I didn't see the comparison of cast to .22-250). Barrels sent out, rough reamed .050" short for a cartridge. You, or your gunsmith, installs the barrel and finish chambers the barrel to fit the cartridge.

    Winchester Model 54

Not a Swift by any chance or a 2R Lovell. I don't know who posted the shit in the book that j-huskey showed (no offense j-huskey, the book is WRONG) but that ain't an improved version. The shoulder should measure .419" and the base should be around .470" (convert to metric and it's ~about~...

I would've thought that was an A100 as it has PT6A engines. PT6A-28 engines to be more precise. A little less horsepower than the B100 TPE-331-6-252B engines. 680 vs. 715.
