Gavintoobe has a new video with Fred Zeglin in this video doing some chambering at about the 20:00 mark . It's a different way to chamber kinda like between centers .

We use the Mason reamer holder and it helps to cut some nice chambers . We started out like most using the rod system and build some really nice shooters .

I believe the OP wants to drill gas ports in barrels that wouldnt stress a lathe too much if at all . Any other milling I would just pick up a mini mill and save the wear on the lathe .
Couldn't you put the barrel in something like a boring bar holder held in the steady rest ? Drill chuck in the three jaw feed with the Z axis ? Up and down would be the tough adjustment but it could be done .

Did you fill them all the way up to the bottom ? What I do is get a bit small enough to put some tape around the bit and still have it fit down the hole . Carefully drill going towards the action side till your all the way through the you can go bigger with the bits to get it cleaned out . The...
