    I have tried N540 with 77 SMK and 80 ELD in a 24" bolt gun. No chrono data yet as I'm still looking for pressure signs as I turn it up. On edit. It may not be the best for an AR gas system.

    Typically, an increase of one inch of barrel length, will add around 25 feet per second to the velocity. The benchrest crowd claim barrels ~22" provide the best balance of speed and accuracy.

    I've had to do the same but the 75 ELD-M is a good replacement, just a higher price point. Why don't you load Mk262 as well? I've been loading mine with 77 SMK or Nosler CC with success. The 77 SMK with N140 is a performer. My friend likes the 73 ELD-M

    Great thread. There are a lot of shooters that spend way more time worrying about SD on their Garmin chrono and shooting little groups, than practicing all the other aspects of the sport.

    I have a 11.5 5.56 BCM upper that I bought second hand. The previous owner put a Griffin blast shield on it, and which works as intended. Really takes the edge off.

    I would do a 223 and have the chamber reamed to 223AI. You can get pretty close to 22-250 velocities. Cheap brass, because you always lose some when oit hunting. Fireforming is a thing but accuracy is still great when forming so you can use them for practice loads. Barrel life is longer than...
