Suggestions for a good book for a long range shooting novice.

Well I've read the book by Plaster and it was alright. I could see where it might help some folks. Not a great book in my opinion, but I'm also not a really experienced shooter in the long range field that could be a good judge. I think everything is subject to perspective and personal...

New Rifle Marksmanship Book for Beginner Through Intermediate

Hmm I'll have to see about ordering that. All in all, I've got 2 I haven't finished yet so I reckon there's no rush on it. I'm currently reading a book about shooting at a grand, but I can't remember exactly what it's called. About a champion shooter that also currently escapes me. So far it's a...

'Cuz I Know You Guys Love Noob Humor

You could always put a notch in your foam. I have to do that every time I add a Kirsten to a stock. I'm probably not doing it right and putting it too far forward or something though.

    Range Report Week of shooting!

Thank you. I was sort of hoping that competition type shoots would benefit me in all parts of long range shooting. From basic repetition and form to the dealing with adrenaline and wind/dope reading/adjustments. I feel it would, but I know I could also use the money spent on ammo, gas, etc to...

    Range Report Week of shooting!

Mostly I want it for the job! Your life could lay in my hands one day and I'd expect you'd want me to be able to perform to the highest standards! I mean the average LE sniper shot is 56yds, according to ASA's research, but I can't imagine that it would be any easy shot when it's someone's life...

    Range Report Week of shooting!

Here's a few pics from the class. My equipment. Some of the shooters, who will go anonymous, along with nothing to up close about their guns or anything. Just so I don't step on anybodies toes or anything. The target pic is the best 3 shots from 400yds. There's a shot just about 3/4" or so above...

    Range Report Week of shooting!

Well I spent the week in a basic law enforcement sniper class. It was a lot of fun and I gained a lot of experience, as well as got a lot of experience in shooting in different weather conditions! We hit the range Tuesday and it got up to about 35 degrees with wind and freezing rain. Had pretty...

Rifle Scopes S&B PMII 5-25x56 Question

I think he's inquiring as to how to reset the turrets to a zero setting after sighting in, but I could be wrong.

    Keeping cheek weld when shoot

Well if tying yourself to the weapo doesn't make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, then nothing will. A new use for the wifes panty hose? God knows I ain't ripping up one of my shirts!

    Advice on correcting a flinch

Well gents after a few days ib the line at this basic LE Sniper school, it was pointed out to me that I'm flinching some. I know I was when I wasn't o the gun. Always have. I personally didn't notice it until after on of my team mates pointed it out today! Anyhow I slowed myself down and...

Gunsmithing First Savage build, Need some help

You can use any of the Savage actions, short, intermediate, or long. Need a .473 bolt face I believe is the right diameter for the bolt face. It's right close to that anyways. 243, 7mm-08, 30.06 etc is all the same bolt head diameter. A short action would be optimum I guess, but a long action...

    just realized something!

I really miss the little flashing pm flag that we used to have! Thanks for listening. I guess I'm just down a little and never thought about it until just now. On the bright side, I get to go to an le sniper class next week with a tacops rifle that's topped by an sb scope! Guess if I fail...

    Yep, another Cerakote oven

Man that's awesome. I've been looking at producing something similar, but just haven't gotten around to doing it and haven't convinced myself I won't burn my shop down! From my research on cerakote, it was showing 250 degrees being about the top end of the needed amount of heat. Do you have an...

    Gunsmithing Which Savage prefit?

I went with Shilen for mine and as soon as I get my stock from Kevin, I'll let you know how it performs. I suspect it should shoot lights out, but we will see. I know that my last 308 was a factory Savage FPLE and it shoot really well. I also had one with an ER Shaw on it and it performed only...

Rifle Scopes Which height rings with stock Savage 10?

I've always ran one form or another of 20moa bases and have never needed anything more than a low ring for me. I would imagine that it would/could vary between folks, but I think it would work just fine with a 50mm objective.

Rifle Scopes Look what showed up today

Definitely will be a contender on my list. I'll need to have something in hand before September of this year, so I guess it will depend on how difficult they prove to be to get a hold if the initial rush to buy em! We shall see. I've had an experience with a fixed 10 SWFA and I wasn't impressed...

Rifle Scopes Undecided... A little help, please?

Out of all those, I'd speculate Zeiss would be the best quality glass all in all. I'm sure the other 2 would be fine choices, depending on the end use that you intend for it.

Rifle Scopes Scoping On The Cheap

Now this may not be true with all of the scopes, but I've used a Simmons 44mag series 6-21x44 I believe it was with a mildot and covered target type turrets with success, as well as a 6-18 banner series, and a primary arms scope as well. I ran them all on a 7mag with really good success all in...

Rifle Scopes Vortex PST vs. Leupold Mk 4.

I'd have to say the Vortex is better from my personal experience, but that's all I can say. I thought it out performed the Leupold hands down. The glass was as good or better. As far as all the other options, well in my opinion they performed equally well. In the resale category, I took a few...
