Since this has been a hot topic with calibers and bullets. This morning, 300yds, hunter pulled his shot to far back, 308 150 gr corelokt. My dog found it several hundred yards away very much alive. Bigger guns don’t help bad shot placement.
No I thought mentioning shot placement being most important explained importance of any caliber/bullet. All good
And yes I shoot mono’s as well, I like light and fast with them. I hot rod these to about 3500 fps in a light weight custom 264 wm.
I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have said it if there wasn’t. But I’ll help you, Point is no bullet type or rifle size makes up for bad shot placement. Pretty simple
Well I have this of a hunters sons Buck shot front of the shoulder with a Mono metal expanding bullet, just a week ago. Three hours later my dog tracked & caught wounded deer so we could ethically dispatch it.
You really look like you need a hunting partner. If you ever feel you will have a hard time filling those tags just hit me up! I promise to only bring my 223 too if it’ll help 😁
Thank you,
Been meaning to look and see what I actually use after reading your post. It’s a #64 or .036” bit to clean the tips and ever so slightly enlarge the opening of mine.
Living in a state that allows 12 deer tags per season, yearly crop control on friends farms, and takes hogs regularly. I have a good idea of what works, I prefer, and my gear. But, I’m also glad you have a preference that works for yourself.
Don’t get too high on your pedestal now. I’ve had two experiences of Barnes bullets failing to expand. 25-06 TSX (recovered curved like a banana) and 264 win mag ttsx tip broke off never expanded, curved like the tsx. With bullets/arrows hunting enough weird shit just happens at times.
While I’d like to agree with this and do to a point, shit does happen even to top class products at times. I had a BA barrel shot bad it was a rodeo getting them to work with me. When they did it was day or two for answers by email.
Had a Proof carbon barrel give me a fit here recently and...
61 ft. To be exact by laser 😁. That is 4 does last year and 1 Buck this season all broadside pocket shot. Closest 154 yards farthest 270ish (can’t remember exact number) two bang flops, three runners farthest 70 yards. Last years hunts were with 65gr SGK’s though.
Only recovered bullet
I don’t disagree and won’t argue with anyone doing it as I did. But I found out I ruined meat and if you shot a shade high you hit a void with no vitals that can lead to a long tracking job that may or may not recover your game without a dog.
I think he was being sarcastic in his statement about them. Nice hearing those results from the 3 slow 8. My preferred bullet was the 178 amax (I have about 150 left 😞 ) it was like the bullet was made for that caliber to hunt and my rifle would shoot literal bug holes with it. Blood trails...
