Gunsmithing Setting Head Space with an Empty case?

You're still the king Alan. it's not rocket math, it's just math math. I always try to find a gage ball standard and not get ridiculous like MIL and do a .434589977665" ball. Just a comparator. Some tricky shoulders like 300BLK are difficult, but the majority is a cheap bag of amazon balls...

Gunsmithing Left hand gain twist in a gas gun?

Chamber pressure Pmax is same regardless, is more relative to groove diameter/freebore diameter and 'jump'. Bullet 'start' pressure or however your want to visualize it wouldn't change that much with the rate of progression. Throat would likely last longer due to the material holding up...

Gunsmithing Setting Head Space with an Empty case?

Why what? If you are rolling your own, then you can make your own gage using a case. You're running your own gamut there. When I fireformed, my headspace was who cares.. If you are shooting factory, you might want to know where your headspace actually is. If you don't want to purchase $100...

Gunsmithing Setting Head Space with an Empty case?

If you can math, you can order cheap gage balls off amazon and use a depth mic to gage your 'HS'

Gunsmithing Funky throat pictures on a fresh cut barrel.

Without seeing all the grooves to tell if you have a bit of misalign, it appears to be a slightly nonconcentric groove circle. Which means during rifling op the groove that was cut had a bit of warble in it, little deeper on one side or the middle. If it's a 5groove barrel that is a difficult...

Just ordered a Noveske 16 inch CHF Barrel. Set my expectations.

Length can also mean less muzzle pressure which can lead to better accuracy. that's why guns are fun!

You'd know I'd never disclose material source, but I can guarantee your certainty is amiss. that's the hahah, sources. Sources not me wouldn't know. thanks

Why are Proof Carbon Fiber barrels superior to Christensen? BSF? Dracos?

Substrate matters, wrapped or unwrapped. Then the wrapping matters. later

Knight SR-15 LPR Mod 2 accuracy expectations

Never assume. all LPR's out there since 2008 are not KAC factory made. All LPR bbls since 2008 are cut rifled lapped match grade. Edited to add bc I forget not everyone lives in my train of barrelmaking thought .. The LPR barrels are made collaboratively. Which means some of the work might...

    Gunsmithing Is my barrel toast?

When SS barrels go they usually go. Sometimes you can set the chamber back, but it usually takes quite a few inches on length to gain your rifling back. Check your crown, that is your business end for accuracy. they do wear at both ends, but sometimes it's an errant ding from a cleaning rod...

    Gunsmithing Is my barrel toast?

Drive side of land looks a bit baked but I've shot well with worse. what is the shot dispersion like? Vertical, hori, or all over the place? Check the business end for accuracy if your velocity is consistent, ie look at your crown if it's all over the place. On your spare keep closer...

Knight SR-15 LPR Mod 2 accuracy expectations

The receiver I couldn't give you an honest answer without asking our people on that side of the time clock. But the Mod2 barrel, the original/2.2 difference is a weight reduction on the rear profile. Went from straight taper to g/b shoulder to a bit lighter in the back end. That was a pretty...

Knight SR-15 LPR Mod 2 accuracy expectations

If the KBI engrave was not existent on the LPR it's because the profile was changed to the 2.2 after the fact and just so happened to remove some of the engraving. There are no KAC in house cut rifled LPR barrels in existence. Yet. This is 100% fact. Thanks
