    Gunsmithing Barrels and metal defects/inclusions

In fact I'd want that barrel back home and out of circulation PDQ so it could be fully dissected and analysed.

    Gunsmithing Barrels and metal defects/inclusions

Looked frosty on the phone. Yeah, at 250 rounds you have a case for a rebarrel for sure. I wouldn't even question it here.

Pardon my ignorance, but that is a chromed barrel?

Gunsmithing Thinking the Smith screwed my barrrel

I'll usually fluff the end of the qtip out before dragging thru, yes if there is some pickup or a burr it might be accessible enough to remedy fairly quickly. Have had 2+MOA guns go to 1/2MOA after correcting.

Qtip rub on muzzle exit might lead you to water.

AR10 with 6.5 Upper showing signs of overpressure

Kenny, just saying S&B is a bit hot and a bit close to lands for a gas gun. Not that I know anything more than the next guy, but am barreling 6.5's for KAC. FWIW.

AR10 with 6.5 Upper showing signs of overpressure

I've been watching real close CBTO on factory 6.5CM (in my job description). S&B is the furthest out by far, and is loaded hot. If you're running anything less than SAAMI, you're probably loaded into the lands.

Gunsmithing Gain twist fluting, variable twists, automated code generation.

Why'd you do it...bc you could. Get a patent on it before ER Shaw sees it lol!

AR10 with 6.5 Upper showing signs of overpressure

S&B, that tubby little round. It's going to running not far off the lands in a SAAMI 6.5CM throat which will drive the pressures up. Hot in most gas guns.

Gunsmithing button rifle barrel mystery.. anyone want to weigh in

The 'pickiest' barrels I'd been around, picky for groove dimension, was the 7.5 Swiss. Well, those and bore riders. The swiss shot a conical bullet which formed the parallel on the back end of the bullet and yeah you had to be just so. Just strange that this RDF would be that finicky in a...

Gunsmithing button rifle barrel mystery.. anyone want to weigh in

Bore drives the bullet, doesn't affect pressure much as does affect jacket if too thin but can help accuracy. Groove drives the pressure based on throat, so you gotta look at those two things there for velocity. Cross section also important and probably still well in the ballpark. If the...

Gunsmithing button rifle barrel mystery.. anyone want to weigh in

Don't get too hung up on the .2564/.2644..it's not half thou oversized, that is well within 6.5 accuracy standard tolerance depending on the bullet. So did you measure the major diameter of the bullets?

Gunsmithing button rifle barrel mystery.. anyone want to weigh in

Ha..spin the tool or the barrel a little faster at the end, basically. Tool has to be right for it. Now the real zinger is who makes handlapped gain twist barrels?

Gunsmithing button rifle barrel mystery.. anyone want to weigh in

Oh yeah. Dan Lilja started his stardom on GT button rifled barrels..

Gunsmithing button rifle barrel mystery.. anyone want to weigh in

You're probably alright on the drive side of the groove just a little more clearance than needed on the 8.5 vs 8, the trail side depending on their clearance may have dragged a bit. You might be able to detect it with an eyeball inspect, the geometry might look a bit squint. The standard...

Bartlein wylde barrel.....5r or 4 groove

Don't reckon it matters so much groove count but quality, and the right throat.
