New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
I'm thinking this rifle had excessive headspace when he installed the Remage barrel (and that the Remage barrel was a barrel nut install). That would have caused the light strikes and probably caused the pierced primer. The excessive headspace caused insufficient contact with the breechface and...
My main PRS scope is a Tangent Theta 5-25 with Gen 3 XR reticle, it's got the best glass, best turrets, etc. However I also own and love the 2 Vortex AMG 6-24s with EBR-7B reticle that I have on my NRL Hunter rifle and my 308 training rifle. It's glass is excellent and in many ways I like the...
Another vote for LRI, I have two LRI sourced barrels. I bought a 308 barrel on a K&P blank (LRI stocks and sells K&P barrels) and it is outstanding, both the barrel and the threading//chambering job. My newest barrel is a 30" K&P barrel chambered in 300 Norma Magnum. I haven't shot it yet but...
It's a bit above your price but I've seen the Athlon Ares ETR UHD 3-18 on Amazon for $720. I have one and have been favorably impressed that for the price, it's a pretty good value. It has a zero stop, the turrets clicks are crisp, the APRS6 FFP IR MIL reticle is usable and good, and the glass...
It depends on the brass. My barrels are all Bartleins chambered by a trusted smith. I check my cases for shoulder bump every time I reload and I bump the shoulder .002" to .003" (with some variation across a batch of 500 cases). I also anneal with an AMP every other loading. I shot 6.5 cm...
I think you've covered it pretty well other than when you load, does the primer have resistance when seating it? If there's no resistance, that's an indication of loose primer pockets.
When I get to 6 or so loadings, I start checking a lot more with the bent paper clip. My current batch of...
I've just got the AB Quantum app and I have to say I'm impressed generally but I need Kestrel compatibility because of all the custom gun profiles the I've created using the Kestrel 5700 Elite and the Kestrel Link Ballistics app.
Here's what I posted in the optics section about my thoughts on...
I just got an Sig Kilo10K Gen 2 and my first impressions of the are very favorable. The past few years I've been using a Leica 3200.com 10x42 except for the Nightforce ELR match when I bring my old trusty Vectronix Terrapin. I use a Kestrell 5700 Elite for my ballistic solutions. I used to have...
Generally you are probably right. My locksmith filled the hole he drilled by epoxying in two sections of hardened drill bit with ball bearings between them, so that very well might be impractical to drill again if the lock failed again. However he replaced my S&G lock with an AMSEC lock, which...
Ditto on this. I had a Liberty Safe with S&G electronic lock and something in the lock mechanism broke and I couldn't get it open. I called a local safe company in San Diego and the tech had a book with precisely where to drill to get it open. Opened it in about 2 hours and replaced the lock...
I can't explain why others have found N570 to be stable and I and my friend didnt. At the 2023 Nightforce ELR, my experience and my friends experience with temp instability was all from the same jug of powder and the same batch of ammo loaded all on the same day, so I don't think it was lot to...
We both got higher velocities with N570, I think my friend was getting around 3050 through a 32" Bartein with no pressure signs, but the temp sensitivity was a deal killer for both of us.
I think we were in squad 3 this year and by my count I shot significantly better except the scoring fiasco...
I'd be careful with N570, I shot it for 2 years, but found it was extremely temp sensitive. So did my friend who was shooting it also during that time. We were shooting ELR rifles with 30-32" barrels, Lapua Cases, Fed 215M primers, Berger 245 EOLs, and 81.0-83.0 grains of N 570. At the 2023...
I used 16 lbs. of the stuff when H4350 was really hard to get. My load with Hornady brass, Hornady 140 ELDM, CCI BR2, 41.8 grs. of IMR 4451. gave around 2700fps in a 24" Bartlein and very good SD. It is temp stable. No cons that i can think of its pretty good in 6.5CM.
Most of my precision rifle scopes have sunshades and Aadland caps or Tenebraex caps (no I don't use the ARDs). Besides the benefits in the few situations that you would need a sunshade, they do help protect the objective threads, and I have shot mateches in the rain where they kept my objective...
Every ring I can think of, Leupold, Seekins, Vortex, Nightforce, Spuhr, ARC, Badger, TPS, etc. all have some markings somewhere indicating the mfr. If there are no markings anywhere perhaps you have chinese made airsoft rings?
The CDG action offers two bolt handle configurations. The conventional configuration has a fixed bolt handle and primary extraction is by the conventional way of opening the bolt bears on a camming surface that provides primary extraction. The pivoting bolt handle configuration has a pivoting...
Semi auto rifles are almost never as accurate as bolt guns. Particularly large frame ARs are harder to get to run well and shoot accurately compared to a bolt gun. Plus bolt guns are easier to maintain and cleaner (no dirty direct impingement gas systems). The advantage of a semi auto in a...
There are many makers of barrel vises, this is the one that I have, the Short Action Customs (SAC) modular barrel vise:
https://shortactioncustoms.com/product/modular-barrel-vise/
It's on the upper end of the price range, but the less expensive SAC Bravo barrel vise is also excellent.
If...
