New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
So a close friend of mine was able on a whim of sorts to acquire a Proof Research barrel for his AI. In the process of his load development today with 109 Berger's doing a seating depth test:
well he thinks he has a decent load...
In no way should the data shown be considered safe in any...
Back in the 1960's I read an article by the Army Marksmanship unit in one of the gun rags of the time. There most important point they made was to clean the primer pockets to allow for proper feel when seating the next primer... I have been faithful to that concept ever since.
Yes your mileage...
While I still can't get my iPhone to hookup to my unit I am very pleased overall. The bag is great and a USB battery pack is a must. Like mentioned above a good cable helps as well as good SD CARDS. PREVIOUSLY I used an Oehler 35P and before moving on had the opportunity to run the units not...
This is a turly eye opening moment. Due to current market conditions I've been shooting some very older powders which while stored in consistent conditions, well it's the desert and humidity is scarce. So obviousily older data point simply aren't matching. Now I know why. Thank you.
Lot's of knowledge being shown here, and thanks to all the serious posters.
I suspect a detonation with an under charged case. This is an extremely rare but known possibility with centerfire ammunition. I have also read that it is difficult to recreate even in ballistic labs.
That said if...
Crayola, the big box...
For my rifle logs I use a word document with salient pictures imbedded. Cartridge and chronograph data goes to excel. For the most part I am beginning to think that there is too much noise not enough clarity.
Perhaps the answer is the question: What do you really...
While I'm not a huge fan of reading primers for pressure, it APPEARS that your tight head spaced brass showed "less" pressure as to how "flat" the primers are.
Recently working with 2 different .260 rifles. One an AI the other a JP. what I am finding difficult to understand is why the gas gun is apparently so much more sensitive to pressure. This is based on my "ignorant" assumption that regardless of the breech in the chambers and ammunition...
I think I would stay at 41 with 130's and maybe 41.7 with 123's.
Can't see them both at virtually the same powder charge, coincidental nodes.
Once you add the can to the mix what will your apparent pressures look like. Dwell time might not be favorable to the hottest nodes.
I've just recently begun to use my LabRadar when shooting at extreme distsnce. It tells you why you missed and in so doing prevents un necessary or false corrections.
I had one experience with a personal purchase of a LaRue barrel. It sucked. Sent it back and was told it was fine, met their 1 MOA standard. Guess 1 MOA is larger like the BS in Texas cause here in the desert it's still mighty close to an inch.
That said I have seen and shot some fine early...
I shoot a Sako 24" 1 in 8 twist and your top load of IMR 8208 XBR @ 2.412" COAL is .003" shorter than mine. FWTW, that load is an absolute hammer for me. My LabRadar claims 3003 ft/sec as well...(atttached) picture is from a 100 yard group in decent conditions this past Fall. Mine in LC brass...
If it's a 6.5 the outside of the fired neck portion of your cases should measure approximately .297" as mentioned above it just might be a barrel blank of a larger caliber was mistakenly chambered as your 6.5 dream rifle.
