Night Vision NV and thermal kills...

Getting to a point in my life where taking new hunters out is the most rewarding/fulfilling thing I do. 17 yo son has a friend with limited exposure to guns/hunting. Brought him out to our place in W. Texas for Easter weekend and took him hunting and shooting steel out to 742m. They went 3/3 at...

    Rifle Scopes Hunting Scope suggestions

Very similar use case to your criteria, and I went with the Zeiss LRP S3 4-25. Very happy with it so far. Especially for the price through Expert Voice. Turret doesn’t lock but has a zero stop. Windage isn’t capped. Reticle on low power is usable with illumination on.

Night Vision The Official: Steiner C35 Thermal Clip-on Review and User Thread!

Correct. No experience with the Steiner Gen 2. Was waiting for a proper pic rail interface and gave up, decided to grab the Athlon off Expert Voice instead. Glad I did (so far).

Athlon way better in every category except the app.

Night Vision The Official: Steiner C35 Thermal Clip-on Review and User Thread!

Two of my hunting buddies have gen 1s, and I’ve got the Athlon. Only thing better on the Steiner is the app.

    Hog hunting rifle choice

Reloading your own I think is always better. Used to reload for my precision 308 bolt rifle but ARs bring new challenges. I’m (unfortunately or fortunately) at a point in my life where I value most my free time. Right now I can provide more for my family working than I can in my reloading room...

    Hog hunting rifle choice

Better terminal performance on body shots, recovered more runners on average than when using mk262. Was hunting with govt guys that were bringing free mk262 to use. Free ammo is always best ammo, but if I’m buying ammo, I prefer to use the Barnes 70. This is shooting at night from short ARs...

    Hog hunting rifle choice

Killed hundreds with mk262 and hundreds with 70gr Barnes. My experience the 70gr Barnes works a little better. Best advice I give when guiding hunters on my place is to aim center neck. 5.56 works great typically on the first aimed shot on a stationary pig. It’s when you start trying to hit...

Rifle Scopes My first what scope thread

Love my S3 so far. Only time eye box is tight is at max mag, which I use maybe 1% of the time. For normal mag ranges not an issue.

Night Vision Athlon Cronus ATS PRO 35CL Clip On.

Yes. Use it that way all the time. RTZ has been fine so far.

Night Vision Guide Thermal clip-ons, experience?

I’ve got the Athlon which is basically the same thing, and have been extremely happy with it. There is a thread on the Athlon clip on that should provide more info.

Night Vision NV and thermal kills...

Fun night taking my 13 year old daughter and her friend out hunting. Her friend had only shot a gun once before. Started with 22 and worked up to consistent hits on steel at 200m off the tripod. Then the 5.56 AR, and finally the 6.5 CM. Both did awesome. 3 rounds fired, 3 perfect neck shots. Fun...

Night Vision Athlon Cronus ATS PRO 35CL Clip On.

3 more pigs down with the Athlon compliments of my 13 y/o daughter and her friend. RTZ was perfect after being stored for two weeks. All perfect neck shots from 70-120m. Only frustration was that the auto record function doesn’t stay turned on if you power off the unit. Thought if I turned on...

Let's talk about youth packages and training

Above your price point, but well worth it in my opinion, is to get a quality 22 and chassis that both the kids and you can use. I put a Tikka T1X in a KRG Bravo and a cheap 22 suppressor on the end. Daughter has been able to grow with it, and enjoys shooting in the backyard at 25m when she gets...

ZEISS LRP S3 4-25 For Hunting?

I put a mk5 3-18 on my 2nd son’s hunting rifle that I built out for him. Hard to beat the weight and size of it. If trying to keep ounces to a minimum I would probably go with one on my own rifle. I much prefer the glass on my S3, and willing to sacrifice the weight for the clarity, turrets...

ZCO 420 vs NF 420 on a gas gun.

I was considering the ZCO 4-20, but went cheap route on the S3 4-25 and have been very happy with it on my gas gun. Not PRS, but great on animals to 600 and steel to 1000m. Needs the sun shade, though. Just throwing out another option. Expert Voice pricing was well worth it.

    New Sig CROSS

Anyone tried out the Sawtooth in 6.5cm, preferably the 18” version? Bought an original cross for my 2nd son, and honestly wasn’t that impressed with the accuracy. Good enough, but felt it would have greatly benefited from a better barrel. 3rd son is now ready for his “grown up” rifle and looking...

ZEISS LRP S3 4-25 For Hunting?

On a 6.5cm AR10. Use it for animals (pigs, coyotes, deer, and elk) out to 600m, and steel out to 1000m. Agree with above that eyebox is fine up to 20x. Keep it in that range and won’t have any issues. I’m not getting rid of mine. Just wanted to be clear on some of its limitations.

ZEISS LRP S3 4-25 For Hunting?

I’ve been running the S3 4-25 on my primary hunting rifle for about four months now. Glass is excellent, as are the turrets. Reticle is usable on low end with the illumination on. Have used it at 4-6x adequately with a thermal clip on. Two issues with the scope. Eye box is pretty damn tight...
