I’d go mils and get a rangefinder. Once you learn the fundamentals of that, ranging and bracketing becomes much easier to understand.

Is bedding the AR barrel a myth? What's the best way?

It does expand, 609 and 620 expand to different ratios. But either is plenty for the void one might see in this process. 620 has a higher heat rating.

Is bedding the AR barrel a myth? What's the best way?

Don’t get lost in all the technical stuff. If you have a loose fitting upper/barrel, try to heat the upper and get a piece of shim stock in there, if you have trouble after a couple tries and now your out of shim stock, just gob some 620 loctite in the upper and on the barrel and shove them...

Is bedding the AR barrel a myth? What's the best way?

Nice! That eases some doubts that I had. I figured it was fairly durable if people used for certain jobs like cylinder replacement in engines.

Is bedding the AR barrel a myth? What's the best way?

That’s reassuring. I’d think anyone who’s going thru this trouble would be going on the precision side of AR building and would probably never get the extension and chamber that hot anyway.

Is bedding the AR barrel a myth? What's the best way?

Should be fine since you didn’t use and loctite, my concern doing that with loctite is if does become malleable the barrel would displace in that gap when it’s hot, and then the loctite would not return when cooled. Pure speculation though.

Is bedding the AR barrel a myth? What's the best way?

I like to stay under 50 ft lbs. but honestly I don’t don’t think it matters much as long you stay under the max recommended, which I think is 85 or 90. I haven’t seen any convincing data to back up the claims that less is more. Is your 80% wrap width wise or length wise concerning the shim stock?

Rifle Scopes The Arken Optics Thread (merged)

Less tunneling, locking turrets, better eye box, glass pretty much equal to the ares. 29mils of elevation. 34mm vs 30mm

Rifle Scopes The Arken Optics Thread (merged)

I like the ares way better than the Arken, but I’d probably get the helos gen2 6-24 If I was going to get another 500$ scope.

Rifle Scopes The Arken Optics Thread (merged)

I was judging the stars on an American flag, texture on a shingles roof, letters and numbers on a mailbox and license plates at 650 yards in direct sun at 7pm in late July. There was no difference in clarity or image quality out of all three. This was at their respective max mags. There was no...

Rifle Scopes The Arken Optics Thread (merged)

I have all three athlons you mention and see no discernible difference in the helos vs the Midas tac and ares btr line, even the turrets feel the same maybe even slightly better. This is having them in direct sun, at dusk and midday when mirage is at its worse. The little difference that might...

Is breaking in an AR barrel really worth it? What is your process with a new barrel?

On cheap barrels I speed up the process with tubbs final finish, my goal is to get the gas port stable as quickly as possible. If I use a premium barrel I just shoot and clean afterwards and not get too serious with load development or stress over accuracy until I get a couple hundred rounds...

Is bedding the AR barrel a myth? What's the best way?

After discovering bedding and shimming I don’t let a loose fitting upper go to waste. I shim and bed them and use them, this process basically fixes them so why not. But I get it if you want a better fitting upper for maybe a one and done precision project.

Suggest a scope for a 308 Bolt Gun

Meopta optika 6 5-30. It’s got great glass and you don’t have to grab the turrets like a beer bottle cap to turn them. Target from the bench is about comfort, good glass equals less eye fatigue and good turrets don’t have to be hard to turn if you’re not running and gunning. They have great...

After all that went down, I feel you deserve to put some stipulations in place.

This sounds like the Burris CS I’m used to, sending two out before they get theirs back.

Burris Customer Services at its worst, please help/advise. (UPDATE: 09DEC23)

Something is happening across the board as far as employee and customer service. It’s very likely the worker didn’t do shit to the scopes and just sent them back. Supervisors and higher ups typically just trust the worker’s judgment and don’t worry about checking. Ever since Covid people just...

Is bedding the AR barrel a myth? What's the best way?

Good to know, that’s one of my main reserves on getting an enhanced upper. I’ll probably just go with one since it’s not impossible. Lol

Is bedding the AR barrel a myth? What's the best way?

I want to do a M5 enhanced next but I wonder about getting the shim installed right thru that interface. I thought though I’d just glue it with 620. I’ve never seen a m5 enhanced in person, maybe I’m overthinking it.
