New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
I have 5/8x24 cherry bombs. I have our machine shop open them up but there are better options that work with the plan B like the Reardons https://hansohnbrothers.com/shop/rearden/accessories/muzzle-brakes/rearden-spb-brake/
It matters every bit as much. Retained velocity also equals retained energy. Take a 300gr .45 cal and compare it to a 300gr .338 and you’ll see that energy as you get further in distance bleeds off rapidly for the lower BC projectiles. If your hunting ranges are short then go for whichever you...
Well…i think ultimately we still have to verify it for ourselves and I’ve only verified to 100y so as long as it clears the barrel and suppressor, I’m gtg as far as I’m concerned.
I use the Berger Twist Rate Stability Calculator and it states the 350gr Maker is stable with a 1:7 with a stability factor of 2.08 which falls in line with what I’m seeing on target. I dont know how accurate it is though…but the calculator you’re using looks more advanced.
I don't much see the benefit to the 1:3 twist. I think the 1:5 would be the fastest id consider. The 350gr Makers stabilize just fine out of the 1:6.5 at 700ft ASL so I’m gtg. I like having the option to use slightly cheaper bullets for SuperSonics like lead cast bullets.
I’m definitely curious...
I did a Sig Cross in 8.6 and its definitely under 9 lbs with suppressor and scope. I’m going to order up a carbon fiber barrel from Mos-Tek in 1:6.5 twist.
Total with Suppressor: $3660
There are 350gr Maker Rex expanding subsonics, 285gr Controlled Fracturing bullets and I believe one other one if you're wanting a hunting subsonic bullet that will expand in the lower velocity range. The 350gr M-Rex being the best option.
I agree, the main draw to the 8.6 is subsonic use but, I've had some good luck with 160gr Barnes TTSX getting sub moa accuracy even with a 1:3. Does give you some options if need be, I dunno…incase a bear shows up on your elk kill or something like that. 😳
That works too!…buuuut, I don't know of any longish for subsonics range capable bullets that are in .45 cal that will expand, at least to my knowledge. The BC’s in the .338 help with slinging the subs passed 150y to 200y relatively easy in comparison.
