Gunsmithing Headspace issue - what are my options?

Thanks for the tips guys. Definitely won’t be doing that again. Will be sending to my gunsmith shortly.

Gunsmithing Headspace issue - what are my options?

It’s a 7mm Rem Mag, Model 700 Sendero. It was my dad’s, not a particularly high round count rifle (I’d guess maybe 200-300 tops), but not well maintained. Had certainly been fired by me before without any issues. I actually didn’t remove the barrel when I lapped the lugs, which may have been...

Gunsmithing Headspace issue - what are my options?

Flattened and cratered primers, some case head discoloration, extremely difficult bolt lift in two different loads. Sounds like a pretty easy fix, thanks!

Gunsmithing Headspace issue - what are my options?

Hey guys - as part of my efforts to revitalize a Remington M700 that was passed down to me, I decided to use my (very) amateur gunsmith skills to square up the bolt and receiver lugs by lapping them, I thought gently. According to the Dykem, before the lapping there was very little lug contact...

    Rifle Scopes Swarovski Z8i 2.3-18x56

Gotcha, appreciate the response. I suspected that would be your response but as someone in the market for a sub-$1000 piece of hunting glass I was curious to hear any negative feedback.

Just out of curiosity, what do you not like about the Razor HD LH?

    Spotting scope with ranging reticle?

I've got the Bushnell and for the price it's fantastic. Without knowing what you want to do with it, hard to know if it's good enough for your purposes. Obviously it's WAY under your price point - so if the main requirement is a ranging reticle and "good enough for general use" glass, hard to...

    Primos trigger stick tripod

The Gen 3 has two stops for spread of the legs. I agree they could definitely do some things better (allowing for spike or claw feet would be great) and there’s a lot of plastic in the head mechanism, but that also keeps the weight down. The fundamental design is sound, but I think you could...

    Primos trigger stick tripod

I really like mine for what it is, which is a lightweight tripod that I can deploy really fast. It's not a precision instrument, but it's not supposed to be. I've killed deer at 300 yards off mine with no problems.

Any triggers to avoid with Bighorn TL3?

That's correct, if you forget to ask for the special sear they'll mail you the right one and you just mail the original one back.

Rifle Scopes Carbine Optic- Improvement over current USO SN4 1.5-6x?

How would the Burris 1-8x in SFP stack up with those 1-6x options you listed? They offer a fairly standard BDC reticle with illuminated center dot SFP model as well. I've been considering upgrading my Steiner P4xi on my 3-gun rifle - I'm not sure it's worth the hassle and money to just jump up...

    which bipod?

Even better, get the 6-9 with the PASS Atlas adapters and get the 3" leg extensions. Now you've got both.

Rifle Scopes SFP Scopes for Hunting

Check out the Vortex Razor HD LH. I have one on order after reading really good things about them. I was looking for a relatively light, SFP hunting scope with capped turrets and some holdovers, and the Vortex fit the bill nicely. Ilya at OpticsThoughts (who also posts here) recommends it as...

    2 Stage Trigger

I've played around with both the single and two stage CEs. I think the single stage is a great trigger, but never could get the creep out of the double stage, even after speaking with a tech at Timney and following all their instructions. Recently switched to a Bix N' Andy two stage Tacsport...

Newbie looking to get into a tripod. Need help

Not necessarily disagreeing with your point, but couldn't you just shorten one of the legs in that scenario to create elevation? Not as fast as a ballhead of course, but it's a workaround if you only very occasionally need to shoot at a steep angle.

    RRS Leveling heads- RRS TVC-33 & Feisol 3372 + Anvil 30 comment

Diver - Thanks for this thread, it's been really helpful. I've got a RRS TA-UL leveling head and am trying to figure out what tripod to mount it on. I'm very new to precision shooting and have shot off a tripod exactly once (Slik DX Pro 700 with the RRS head) and thought it was hard as hell...

Got the HC-Pro in yesterday. Man, what an awesome mount. Clean and simple, but will work on virtually anything. Great work RRS.

    The smoothest action.

    Uh, which part was bullshit?

Newbie looking to get into a tripod. Need help

If you don't need to shoot at extreme angles, a RRS leveling head will be more stable, more compact, weigh less and cost less than a comparable ballhead.
