    Well, if you can find a NEW, old stock Gen 1 under warranty - I'd probably go that way. The Gen 2 has better battery life (two 18650s vs one) better processor, easy interface, same screen, same lens. You can make it clip on under a 30-32mm LPVO but other than that is a clamp on.

    Sorry, just saw this. Have since played with another unit that used a 2X eyepiece and that was useful. If one of those fit, I'd consider it, but yeah - the mount situation is dogshit by comparison to something that arrives with a rail mount attached.
