Anyone work up a load with 80gr ELD-m in 223 yet?

Yup, 223 match chamber, bought in August 2020 from nss direct. I even called and asked and all I was told was that I needed to try another powder and/or depth.

Anyone work up a load with 80gr ELD-m in 223 yet?

My recent experience with the same barrel is the same. I tried the 75 ELDM and 80.5 Berger FB. No matter the powder or seating, I just couldn't get good groups. I switched to 88's and those shoot lights out. I was hoping to shoot something lighter, but I might not be able to.

    Mammoth Sniper Challenge 2021

Last year hammocks were a no go. I wouldn't plan on it

Recommended twist rate for 7mm-08 AI

1/9 will work with 180s, but 8 twist will definitely be good. Can't really comment on the contour, but for the chamber think about the brass you'll be using. I use lake city brass with a thicker neck. Standard brass comes in at .312 and lake city resized comes in at .314-5. I went with a...

Data for ALL Cals Ackley Imp

Perfect timing. I've got a 1/7 bart I'm looking to get spun up. My Smith's reamer has .120 freebore. My plan is running the 88s as close to my mag max length at 2.550. How far are you loading yours out to? Should give me a ballpark

    223 Build load development

I just went thru literally the same thing with my Trued action and same criterion barrel. I shot 75 eldm with Varget, Xbr and h4895 and the best I could get was just at an moa. I shot 24gr Varget with berger 80.5 FBs and got a touch under. I switched to 88gr eldms and they shoot lights out...

    Mammoth Sniper Challenge 2021

well documented down to the second as to how long you have. They'll let you know exactly how long and time. There aren't any surprises either, they explain the route well and let everyone have time to get ready.

    Mammoth Sniper Challenge 2021

Last year in my squad everyone packed it away at the end of the stage and pulled it out at the next.

Rifle Scopes Sig Sauer Tango 4 Gen II?

I've gone thru every generation of them I think, and by my experience that's three generations Gen 1- bought in 2018, black body with locking low profile turrets. The zero stop got jammed up, and after tech support couldn't help resolve it, I sent it back, received a second black one. Used it...

    Mammoth Sniper Challenge 2021

Last two years the stages were pretty much the same. Iirc, there was only one stage that was offhand. You'll need to know how-to range a target and shoot at a 90° angle and off your partners shoulder

    Mammoth Sniper Challenge 2021

20" actually, just very slow factory ammo. As long as there isn't wind, you'll do great. And last year there wasn't any wind. My partner is running a bolt gun this time with 75s at 3k. Should do a lot better if there is wind.

    Why shouldn't I build a 7-08?

That's a fair point, 180s that slow should have a 8 twist, but it could work with an 9 twist. I love my ackley, great cartridge. Thanks for running some numbers too!

    Why shouldn't I build a 7-08?

I'm not sure about the pressure, but I'm not seeing anything excessive. I know that pressure isn't always easy to read though. 25" McGowan 1/9 heavy varmint Shot about 800 rounds with the standard 7/08 then reset as a 7/08 ackley. Originally throated @ 2.960 with 180s eldm Neck is .3185...

    Why shouldn't I build a 7-08?

I haven't had issues with them at all. I run them closer to 2900 or so in my 280 Ackley with a 9 twist and no issues. Seems under 2950 they are fine.

    Why shouldn't I build a 7-08?

Around 2590 for the standard, around 2700 for the ackley. Rather slow, but very accurate.

    Why shouldn't I build a 7-08?

I should've said, this is for my 7/08 ackley. But here is the fireforming load. I didn't mean to mislead. Apologies.
