Are gps units outdated or needed for non mil?

I know you are local, let me know if you want to mess with both. We have every Garmin from 60-66 series and a couple of Explorers I got for test and eval to possibly replace SHOUT ts. I also have some Montanas and Forerunners. Hardware-wise, I am a fan of the 66.

    Shhh...the Marines don't know that. -Tortuga, CPO(ret)

Are gps units outdated or needed for non mil?

P.A.C.E.=Primary, Alternate, Contingency, and Emergency. That's the formula when it comes to navigation or comms. More importantly, know how to use what you have and be honest with yourself. When is the last time you made a nav plan using a map and compass/protractor?

    Favorite places to buy ammo

Watch what companies gouge during the lean times, they are easy to find. I would rather be patient and send my business to those that understand the industry and their customer. They also tend to be small family-run companies run out of the garage and are fixtures at matches and other events.

Who makes a good .223 Bolt gun ?

I want Tikka Lite Compacts in both .223 and .308 so I can make them into scout rifles. Finding the .223 has been fruitless so far and only a couple of .308 out there. There must be a container ship floating around out there full of Tikkas. :cautious:

Old Gold shines like new ?

That is when you have to choose what you are, a shooter or a collector. I grew up putting character dings in a Win 52 pre-A, hunted a Cooper like it was a Walmart 10/22, and would not hesitate to walk the woods with a Annie 1727. It is the same as with classic or exotic cars. Race 'em or store...

Old Gold shines like new ?

Trends come and go. If you're anywhere near my age, you remember the days of long-barreled pistols for handgun silhouette, the revolvers and lever guns of cowboy shooting, and cold-war area survival guns. Rimfires really don't wear out, so they are all still out there. Right now we are seeing...

    M & P 2.0. Yes or no

And here I thought it was just me. I didn't want to like them, but here I am with 3 M&Ps, 0 Glocks and a P320X5 gathering dust.

PRS Talk Trainers 22LR vs 223

I would think the .22lr-6mm combo would be more versatile than a .223-6mm combo. More disciplines and places to shoot, kid/beginner friendlier, takes up less time/room on reloading bench, etc. Have those major rimfire and centerfire bases covered, then decide if the holes in between them are big...

    10/22 Build

Bad news...Brimstone stopped offering 10/22 trigger work effective 2/12/2022. They said they will be offering a drop-in trigger soon. Brimstone That was the true 10/22 trigger hack. Now, the next best cost-effective change would be to install a Kidd drop-in trigger job kit.

    Most accurate 10/22 pistol barrels?

I picked up a 6" from Enoch, which I believe are TacSol with their name on it. Have not had a chance to see how it shoots, still waiting on a chassis. As much as I wanted the Volquartsen CF 6", I could not justify that price for a designated plinker. I have their CF barrel on a 10/22 takedown...

    K-Bars Marine graduation present

Yeah if that's the case, no joy. Navy and Marine aviation must use the provided tools in the provided tool boxes which are all serialized to the 'nth degree and inventoried A LOT. Non-aircraft stuff such as free-fall, boats, and other gear thrown out like NSW, Recon, and Raider can be WAY...

    K-Bars Marine graduation present

I have spent a lot of years in blue (Navy) and green (USMC) paralofts and cannot think of any MOS-driven gift. If it were a given that he was going to rig at a Raider Battalion or go 03 series, I would recommend a fixed blade, specifically a Winkler Drop Point Crusher.

    K-Bars Marine graduation present

As a Rigger, Navy/Marine Corp tool control policy takes his knife out of play, so stick with EDC or heirloom. Opinions vary, but coatings on the blade can make sharpening a pain. Also opinion, serrations are strictly for emergency cutting devices and those that can't sharpen a blade. Higher...

Starting JR in NLR22 need help

I agree with your disagreement based on your information.(y) My initial statement should have been stated differently. Your post covers things great, so I'm just going to back to eating crayons.

Debating: Tikka T1x vs Bergara BXR

You are already starting the dangerous (to your wallet) creep. It starts with wanting an out of the box rifle, then "just a little bit more" into a full-on custom rig. For now, I would just shelve the BXR or any auto. Thoughts on the others: BMR-Decent walk around plinker, hunter rifle. Not much...

Starting JR in NLR22 need help

Base class is such a misnomer in NRL22. Unlike other disciplines that have classes that really separate weekenders from the high-end kit, Base v. Open does not. Base should be renamed "shoot what is already in your safe without spending any money" class. Shopping for rifles and optics and...

    10-22, firing pin problem

After a thorough cleaning and possible spring replacement, only use a dry lube (like Hornady One Shot) on the bolt. 10/22 prefer not to be run wet. Head over to Rimfire Central for all things 10/22. They have forgotten more about 10/22 there than most here know. It's a cult, really. You walk in...
