New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
If I don't push them to 2650+ I get extreme spreads in the 40-60fps range...ES is the only number I'm really concerned with and the only way I have found to lower it is to speed them ALL up. My brass doesn't last past three loadings but I know that a shot really low on a target is my fault and...
What powder are you using? Did you build the rifle yourself?
ETA I see that you are referring to loaded ammo and not fired cases.
Will the rounds fit in a magazine? Are you using a drop-in case gauge? What do you mean by saying the bullets have been trimmed?
AA 2230 is a ball powder that meters like H110. I set my powder measure to throw 23.8gr and I check every tenth round and from the 1st round to the thousandth round each charge weighs 23.8 without having to measure each charge
I did it not for the BC enhancement but for loading to mag length so I could get the fat 175gr SMK into the rifling with the least amount of jump through my M1A's.
Here is the best kit I've seen in awhile all you need is dies:
RCBS Reloader Special-5 Explorer Plus Single Stage Press Kit
This is the only kit I've ever seen that includes a caliper and for some reason it has a Nosler manual by far the best kit I've seen in a long time and the best I can...
500 lumens is more than enough for me and I like that it runs on AA batteries haven't bought one yet but am considering:
Coleman - Coleman- Ultra High Power LED Aluminum Flashlight - Ultra High Power LED Aluminum Flashlight
Something else to consider:
The chamber was probably cut at GAP for the 190gr FGGM SMK or the MK248 MoD O with the 190gr SMK so the leade is much shorter to decrease the jump for the 190's and now you are using 220gr with the ogive much thicker/fatter towards the meplat and jamming into the rifling
Plus 1000!!!
die is turned in too much and applying too much crimp...you probably mixed the instructions for setting up the sizer die with the seater die instructions. There should be a considerable gap between the top of the shell holder and the bottom of the seater die. Where as with the...
I just set my Giraud to trim all that have been bumped back two thou to 1.75 for 5.56mm. If the Giraud cuts more or less on one it gets measured for set-back and the trimmer gets checked to make sure nothing has changed
wwrhodes91,
With the Lee classic loader all you really need is a wooden mallet or chunk of 2X4 and you can load your components into ammo from brass fired through the same rifle. There is even a little yellow scoop that as long as you follow the included load chart you don't even need to weigh...
Here is what I started on and am still able to produce extremely accurate loads:
Lee Classic Loader 308 Winchester
A caliper and a decent scale is all that is needed to produce extremely accurate ammunition but it only neck sizes so its really only safe for the rifle that the cases were...
I've had it happen when I worked up a load in the winter months/temperature and then used the same load in the warmer summer months and when I used the same powder but different lots
