Craig "Sawman" Sawyer delivering some retribution to those who made him bleed his own blood. I recently acquired this photo and thought it was cool.

    Why A Ball Head??

Re: Why A Ball Head?? User preference trumps everything else as long as you're putting rounds on target. If cost is your number one priority then it would be tough to beat a tripod from the 70's compared to a modern tripod/head kit. Sounds like you found a keeper.

    Why A Ball Head??

Re: Why A Ball Head?? I think a ball head works best for rapid cant adjustment with a rifle or optic. Adjusting the tripod legs to fix cant at distance would be difficult and time consuming. Fluid heads are also more difficult to adjust cant on uneven ground compared to ball heads in my...

Which head for a Manfrotto tripod?

Re: Which head for a Manfrotto tripod? The stability difference using a QD system is small. You will still have a solid tripod kit. I've never seen a QD plate fail or break apart. Some guys will replace the standard 1/4-20 mounting bolt with a longer 1/4-20 or larger 3/8-16 bolt from a...

Which head for a Manfrotto tripod?

Re: Which head for a Manfrotto tripod? Shooting off of a tripod without a head, using a Hog Saddle, is a little more difficult getting scope on target. When shooting movers you will need to utilize ambushing techniques rather than tracking. The benefits of not using a head are increased...

    TAB or TIS

Re: TAB or TIS Both TAB and TIS make quality, high end slings. I own slings from both manufacturers. You can't go wrong with either. Of the four slings listed, my favorite by far is the TIS Slip Cuff QR. The integrated arm loop and "two-point sling" style adjustment is a sweet combination.

    Question about tripod saddles

Re: Question about tripod saddles The majority of guys using Hog Saddles mount them on some form of ball head. A few special operations sniper courses advocate not using heads for tripod shooting because they think they are less stable. To use a head or not is shooter preference. I prefer to...

    ammo storage case?

Re: ammo storage case? Check out hardware boxes/bins at your local hardware store. Examples: http://www.homedepot.com/Storage-Organiz...p;storeId=10051 or http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/CONTICO...p;cm_vc=IDPRRZ1 A decent hardware bin is $50-100 and you won't look like a "Dooms Day Prepper"...

    Combat Loads

Re: Combat Loads I would go with HSGI Taco mag pouches for a chest-rig. They will be universal with your M4 or M110 mags. The M2010 mag pouches would work great on a belt. When you go slick on a roof top you'll still have M2010 mags on your person. On my last deployment in the Marine Corps I...

    Hog Saddle ShotShow 2012

Re: Hog Saddle ShotShow 2012 The two mounting holes are 1/4-20 and 3/8-16. Both are standard thread sizes for the photography/video industry. I've never seen a tripod with mounting threads other than the two listed above.
