New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
Try raising the legs to get a better position. You just might be surprised. My range has some pretty short benches and I have had to raise the bipod legs on my Atlas, I carry an old Shooter's Bible, about 1.25" thick and use that to shim the legs up. Taller rear bag as well.
A 30.06 or 308 will do the job on anything from brown bear to prairie dogs. A light weight 30.06 or even a 25.06 will take anything from Elk on down. A light weight rifle is essential for hunting unless you are gonna shoot from a blind and even there, you will still need to carry the damn...
In normal rifle barrels it offers no particular advantage or disadvantage. The bullet will be slightly swaged to conform to rifling grooves or the bearing surface. I don't do any lead casting any more, that is pretty much a dark art and too much depends on the quality and composition of the...
I have a couple of suggestions, at least one of which will help but may generate some push back.
1. Ditch the 175s, you don't need them for 500 yards and the 168 FGMM is optimized for 600 yard shooting. You may or may not see an improvement, that is up to your gun more than anything.
2. See if...
Well, it is partially academic and partially practical. The form factor is the big decider, that and the G1 bullet being a flat based bullet makes a boat tail a completely different critter.
I'm confused, not about the shooting, that was/is simple, nutcase with an axe to grind.
When did Vegas hotel rooms go back to having windows that open on higher floors. All the times I've stayed there, I never had an opening window or a balcony.
I just drive a nail into the top of the target frame and hang a plumb line from it.
Once I get the thing leveled to my satisfaction, I'll load a mag and try to cut the string.
I use a Spuhr mount on my gun and use their 7 degree wedge to level the scope. I work on rifle fit to eliminate cant.
I have a Spuhr mount on my favorite 6.5 gun. It is keeping a Bushnell HDMR from falling to the ground. Not sure I would use the terms light and Spuhr in the same sentence. There is a whole bunch of metal in the thing, granted, it is light metal but metal never the less. It is very, very...
My first question would be what kind of hunting? You already have a rifle that shoots and seems to do pretty well. Are you going to be hunting Dahl sheep and shooting across a valley at the silly furry thing on the next peak? Stalking Elk. Why the need for so much HP? If it is just deer or...
I typically shoot at a pace similar to that used in IHMSA matches. 5 rounds in 2 minutes. That will have a barrel in thin form up to about 140 degrees in 5 rounds on a 90 degree day. For reference 140° F is cool enough to touch but hot enough you won't want to hold it in your hand. Call it a...
Gun fit is a very subjective thing. What is comfy for one guy may suck for another even though, externally, they look almost the same. The various positions are all slightly different in terms of fit and what is ideal for one may be a tiny bit off for the others. So much depends on your bone...
I have read a lot of Frank's reviews and find him to unbiased in his opinions on how a particular product performs. If anything, his experience and skill can tend to make things sound better than than they are.
My experience with Bushnell service has been nothing but stellar.
OP, go to their...
I like enough magnification to see a defined aiming point on target.
At 100, I'll use all that is available. At longer distances my magnification tends to go down and the aiming point changes.
I really like 3 or 9 O'clock on circular or even square targets. To my tired old eyes, it is easier...
I won't argue the count as Strikeagle describes it. I'm familiar with the anatomical differences between the muscles of the hand and the 3 primary muscles in the forearam that control finger flexor tendons. 30 years of playing violin gives me some insight into this as well. The interactions...
I used to shoot a lot of trap. By a lot I mean 25000 rounds a year. A shotgun is a little different than a rifle but really not very much. Standing is also a bit different than seated at a bench but also not very much. Here is the similarity I have discovered, some from reading here and some...
Way too many factors in caliber selection. There is nothing wrong with a 308, with the right loads, it is an effective 1000 yard gun. It may not hold up to the wonder 6s and 6.5 in competition anymore but it doesn't require reloads if you can afford to shoot factory match ammo. Zombie...
Remove all ammo from the gun and place it in another room.
Set up something to simulate your normal shooting position,
If you are concerned about dry fire, get a dummy round or make one.
Dry fire till it gets boring. What you want to work on is coordinating your breathing with trigger squeeze...
I have a dead spot in the center of my vision in my right eye. Too many years of welding. You have to think differently. What I have done is use the edge of the dot for my zero reference, not the center. It takes some getting used to but seems to work for me.
I love the anti-cant level on my Spuhr mounts. Of course it is only useful for checking the relative height of my bipod legs when at the bench. It is more or less invisible when I am on the gun.
