Fluting factory barrel - Bad idea?

Ok. Makes sense. I was looking at things from a competition standpoint where barrels get shot out in a year or so. On a hunting gun, that shooting schedule, you’ll get tired of it before it wears out. ?

Fluting factory barrel - Bad idea?

Cmon guys, don’t let the thread go to shit. It’s a good question, and I’m sure others have thought about it. Tikka’s generally shoot “lights out”. They can be fantastic barrels, but any barrel shot much is going to go. The number of rounds is caliber dependent. If a new Bartlein is $650-$750...

Fluting factory barrel - Bad idea?

The other issue is this: fluting creates stresses in the steel. Barrels that are fluted from the factory originally, can be stress relieved and heat treated AFTER fluting. This way the barrel can be perfect AFTER the fluting is done. To do aftermarket fluting on a barrel that wasn’t intended to...

Then you rock you brother. I’ll use my torque wrench and we will both be happy. ?

Rifle Scopes Scope ring torque specifications

I’m sorry, that is a ridiculous statement. If I’m running a $2800-$3000 scope...which MANY of us are, I’m not going with “almost good enough.” Between my time, ammo, match fees, traveling expenses, etc, I’m NOT showing up to a 2 day match to look at my scope that slipped in my rings. It’s now...

Range Report New shooter to focus on 100 yard groups?

As has been stated: Large frame AR’s are NOT the same as bolt guns. As such, they are MUCH s’more difficult to shoot accurately. Not that it can’t be done, it just requires more work. Some will be easier than others. The AR has a horribly long lock time. Also, there is a ton of things going on...

Remington 700 7mm Remington Magnum Advice Needed

I would personally rebartel it to a 6.5PRC. You can buy loaded factory ammo, or down the road you can load your own. You can “download” it to 6.5CM velocities of a 140gr at 2750-2800, or punch it up to 140 at 2950-3000 and really reach out. Since you already have a long action, might as well...

Rifle Scopes Nightforce NXS 2.5x10x42 SFP Mil-R or ATACR 4-16x42FFP for 16” 5.56 Noveske Recon?

The 2.5-10 is an AWESOME SPR/DMR scope for a 5.56 gun. I run a FFP 1-8 on mine, but have run 2.5-10 before. I think it will do all a 5.56 is capable of. My ATACR 4-16 is on my 6.5 GAP-10, where I think it’s FANTASTIC. My opinion: 2.5 for small frame, 4-16 for large frame.

Rifle Scopes Need help choosing a mount

Do yourself a favor, STAY AWAY FROM QD. It takes virtually nothing to change a Geiselle, or a Spuhr. They are INCREDIBLY solid. The RTZ is fantastic on either of those. Plus, they won’t mar the shit out of your upper like the Larue will. IMO, go Spuhr, Geiselle, Badger, NightForce. ANY of...

New to AI AT, EuroOptic stamped barrels?

Not only did you get a fantastic deal, but you now own the finest factory made bolt rifle in the world. Congratulations and welcome to the club. My AI is my favorite bolt gun I’ve EVER owned. Several of my shooting buddies have full house customs, and my AI, accuracy wise will hang with anything...

gonna order a JP .308 or GAP

I can’t throw ANY shade at a JP. I don’t have one, but have never heard a bad thing. I do however, own a GAP-10 in 6.5CM. It is incredible. I own several KAC’s, including an SR-25, and my bolt gun is an A.I., so that’s the type of rifles I’m used to, to give you a point of comparison. My GAP is...

Rifle Scopes Razor HD Gen II 3-18x50 Riflescope

Are you talking about the ring that the Tenebrex scope cover attaches to? The covers have a part that stays on the gun, and a part that clicks on to that and is the actual cover.

18” .308 barrel on AI AT?

I can tell you with 100% certainty that the Federal GMM 185 Berger Juggernauts will get you there in an 18” gun. I do it very regularly with my SR-25 16” ACC, as well as my A.I. 20” .308. The 175SMK are very spotty to 1K from a 16” gun, but the 185’s are quite predictable. That’s from a...

    Blueprinted action?

The way I understand it is that the “blueprint” is to get things square and flat. Things like bolt faces and lugs etc. Remington, as I understand it, is NOT producing actions right now that are particularly good at being square or flat where they sre supposed to be. Things like threads being cut...

    Rifle Scopes NXS or ATACR

Honestly, I’d go with a NF SHV before I’d go with the XTR. I have looked through the Burris, and to me.....jut my eyes, the Burris looked like the lens was foggy. Like it had something on it. It did not, that was “normal.” The owner didn’t even see it, said that’s how it always looked. I had a...

Rifle Scopes NF ATACR 4-16 vs Leupold MK5 3.6-18

I think the tougher call is because the Leupold lacks the track record the ATACR 4-16 does. The NF 4-26 is known to be a balls out tough, been there done that scope. This is NO poke at Leupold, because the MK5 might be too. Key word: MIGHT. I was really looking at the MK5, but came across a...

Rifle Scopes Razor HD Gen II 3-18x50 Riflescope

I have every reason in the world to think you’ll love the ATACR 4-16. Honestly, some people like it more than others, but I’ve never read anywhere where someone DIDN’T like it. It’s just a great scope. Like I said, some folks (like me) LOVE them, some folks are “yeah, it’s cool. But I’ve never...

    Rifle Scopes NXS or ATACR

Not even in the same conversation as the ATACR. Not a bad scope, but he asked about the NXS vs ATACR. Burris is an entry level scope, and not a competitor to the ATACR.

Rifle Scopes Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56mm PM II/LP elevation adjustment range help

Also have to remember you’re not going to be EXACTLY in the middle of your scope. If that was the case, we could throw a scope on, set it in the center, and we’d be sighted in. I’m just saying, 19 mils of upward travel is about perfect. You’re expecting to put it on, be in the absolute...
